So I pulled out that Celeron and put the e6700 into my P5W DH with updated BIOS and started up the system. Fans started spinning, and...nothing...

I pulled the conroe out after fiddling witht he display adaptor and now the Celeron won't get anything to appear on the screen either. Nothing is coming out of the PC speaker.

Fuck... :(

have you tried reseting the bios, taking off the cmos battery and set it up again?

and insert the celeron and update the bios to the latest version before installing the new CPU
 
i just switched the jumper setting to RESET and then back to normal...i'm assuming that reset the bios? but it didn't help at all. im about to pull the battery. you mean the big lithium battery right?

yes, the lithium battery, read the manual, it tells you how to reset it, I have the same board

you have to set the jumper to reset and also the take off the lithium battery for 10 seconds
 
I know your frustrated but don`t give up. Sometimes walking away for a while and thinking about what might be the problem helps.

Try the suggestion about pulling the battery and resetting the C-Mos. I have seen previous postings of folks having to do that after updating the bios to get it to post. Always unplug the power before working on the board.

I do not think its the ram because it worked with the Celeron.
 
Didn't read the whole thread but you need to Flash the BIOS for your motherboard. I think from BIOS 0701 you get Conroe Support if not you need to download it from ASUS
 
-I am using the most updated version of the BIOS from Asus' website. I can't tell you what that version is because i'm on a shit laptop which hates Asus' website, but I flashed about 3 days ago.

-I moved the jumper to the RESET position (Pins 2-3) and popped the battery. After replacing everything there was no difference.

-I called Asus' and after a tech trying to put me on hold and accidentally hanging up on me, then waiting on hold for another 30 minutes, i was told he wasn't familiar with the mobo and he would get someone to call me back.

-My computer inept father thought it would be a good idea to buy himself a smartphone, so I realized dealing with this isn't the most frustrating thing in the world. It's the second most, and teaching him how to check his e-mail on that damn phone is definitely the most.

-If anyone has any other ideas, please feel free to contribute before I go crazy and break this mobo, and my dad's shitty smartphone :p
 
Exact same thing. Nothing appears on the screen, nor is there any beeping
 
Just curious where did you get ur e6700? and was it oem/retail?

Good luck btw, Im sure once you get it going it will be all worth it :p
 
just request a new BIOS chip, make sure you get it for $5 because if you did flash the BIOS thens its ASUS's fault.

EDIT-

did you re sit everything?? Specially the RAM. Try to boot with one stick only see what happens then. and dont plug anything else other than the CPU RAM and Vidcard and HDD i guess. see if it works.
 
I bought it from the Microcenter in Fairfax, VA. It was OEM at 599. I thought I could get away with buying it over the phone and then picking it up there = no shipping no sales tax (i live in MD) but they didn't swipe it till i got to the store and charged me sales tax lol
 
Sounds like a bent pin on the 775 cpu interface array. Might have happened when you swapped cpu's.

Take the cpu out and see. If you got a bent pin(s) it's tweezer time.

RANDOM. I have been swapping out parts CONSTANTLY tonight, over and over again. Trying different combinations of RAM, 2 different video cards, different monitors.

I FINALLY got a post using a single 1GB stick in the DIMM_B2 slot. After that, the same stick also posted in the DIMM_B1 slot.

When i put the other stick back into the mobo it fails to post again. I tried it in those same two slots and again it fails to post. So it appears that single 1gb stick is my culprit. I find it strange that it can suddenly be a problem when I never removed either stick from the mobo while I was switching the CPU.

Well, now to see if I can boot to windows with only 1 stick. Guess I'm calling g.Skill tomorow to claim my warranty and get a new stick.

also make sure u have latest BIOS if u are using CORE 2

Bump your VDimm voltage. Some By SPD timings will only work with increased voltage. Might be that your sticks aren't bad afterall :).
 
yeah, i tried bumping it up to the max it recommended on the stick and it was still a no boot. i dont want to go any further and risk messing it up any more and getting into trouble when i return it. maybe newegg has some in stock at their NJ warehouse and i will be back to 2 GB by wednesday.
 
Glad it worked out dude ^^ Now get that replaced and you should be set. And Gratz on the E6700 should be awesome once you have it running.
