Got my 295

easy canondale. its ok. crosshairs is the guy who paid about $500 for his 260GTX to be modded by viper john, and yet the performance was not even close to a 4870X2. ;)

Actually, I haven't been able to compare them yet, because I have toxins in my legs.

I'm glad a total nub has a GTX 295. Makes me feel all warm in fuzzy inside. I guess at least he is stimulating the economy.

I read your post, then your posting history and laughed. Nice economy statement as well.

Anyways, trolls/haters aside, awesome rig! post some gaming results as well

You keep saying that, if you can't prove it then STFU. If you can't photoshop it like him, than also STFU.

Did you guys read about the dude who bought 3x 295s to SLI them in the EVGA forum? Claims he uses it for "folding", as if that's a reason to whip out $1500+ for the hell of it.

I didnt know you could even do that.

You can't really, there's no drivers out for 4 GPUs I believe, let alone 6. I don't mean to hate on him for spending money but god wtf is wrong with people sometimes...I'm not even jealous, I'd be jealous if it was 2 but since it's 3 of them I'm just mad rofl.

well i know there are drivers for running 2 gtx295 cards because they have already been reviewed in quad sli. I just dont understand how 3 of those cards could run.

Really? The thing is I don't believe any game out right even uses 4 GPUs?
oh yeah they do. firingsquad and some other sites have quad sli reviews up. I cant remeber the other sites and I am using Windows 7 right now so i am alittle disoriented. lol

Yes, you can run a pair of 7850GX2s, 9800GX2s, or GTX 295s in Quad SLI. In fact, dual-GPU cards like this are the only way to get Quad SLI at all -- even with the few boards with 4 PCIe 16x (physical) slots and SLI support out there (there are a few, believe it or not) you cannot get any single GPU Nvidia cards to work in Quad SLI.

There's no such thing as Hex SLI yet, though. Sure the third card / pair of GPUs would be used for PhysX potentially, but that's a whole new kind of overkill.

I did some more photoshop work...lol

I haven't had any time to play with it yet...:(

And thanks all for the comments, i will try to get some number out tomorrow.

obviously you havent been by the distributing computing section of the forum otherwise you would already know its possible.. all you do is run 3 cards w/out the sli bridge.. they each use 2 gpu2 clients per card equalling a total of 6 gpu clients.. avging about 10k PPD per card..

in vista you run DVI dummy plugs.. in xp you just stretch the screen over all 3 cards..

and you dont need drivers for each gpu..

just look at the setups that people use for F@H in the distributing section of the forum.. you can run up to 4 cards.. nvidia or ATI on a crossfire X motherboard.. as long as you dont use the sli or crossfire bridge they are seen as 4 seporate cards and dont conflict.

also will be you relize that 1500 dollars is nothing compared to what most of us spend on systems just for folding..

Thank god

Nice setup, one question though, you know if they sell those fan brackets separately anywhere? I ordered a true black a few days ago and im liking those brackets over the flimsy clips that come stock.

Thanks ;)

Sorry but my GTX 260 SLI setup runs GTA IV perfectly, and its a sick game.

Hes probably one of those ''IT NO RUN GUD, SCREW IT, IT SHOULD WORK 100% WHEN IT INSTALL''. Which it should but still, do not call the game a big heap of dodo unless you actually tried every tweak out there. Makes me wonder about people just busting out 50 bucks for a game they know is not very well optimized and then just complaining and uninstalling.

I wish i had enough money to buy their copy back and give it to the people who are smarter so they can experience the game.

He probably doesn't even own the game because of all the "bad things" he's heard about it

Agreed that the game has some issues with older cards (and is a bit more processor-intensive than i'm comfortable with my games being) but i have absolutely no problems with it, and multiplayer is one of the best games i've ever played.

Here's how i run it (flawlessly btw):

I'm just curious because I've never played the game, but what's the view distance like at 28? Do you have a screen shot? How high can you go? I remember playing GTA III on the PC and I always liked cranking the view distance. This game is on my "to buy" list, I'm just curious about the performance after all the complaints I've heard.

Thanks, im expecting a true black in a few days and i want to maximize cooling so i can clock my Q9550 a bit more.

Congratulations on your mass of unwarranted assumptions.

I stand behind my earlier statement. The game is not visually impressive, yet it requires an insane amount of GPU and CPU power just to run acceptably. Needing GTX 260 SLI to run Crysis at all max settings at 1920x1200? Okay, I can stomach that, though it doesn't excuse the engine scaling horribly. The same thing with GTAIV? Tell me that makes sense with a straight face. I'll be happy to laugh for you.

Thank you, i spent a good amount of time in the gta 4 benchmark thread, so i just get that vibe from people that say the game is a stinking pile of dodo. ;)

As for your second statement, im sure the game is not meant to be visually impressive and yet its not that bad. Like countless people said, including myself, gta4 is a bad optimzed game, indeed it is, but it can still be played and played well enough to make it an enjoyable experience. Which the game provides very well if your into the gta series.

That being said, the game runs on a euphoria engine, which if you research it, and think about it, it explains why this game might be a system hog, that being said, like i said, the game can run better than it does now but its still playable.

I have brought this up many times, and i will say it again here, if my e5200 & 9800gtx can play the game @ 1680x1050 with decent frames, it makes me wonder if people just maxed their settings and expected it to play with 100 frames, just because it can be played on the 360.

Once again to clearify, i do agree with you the game is badly optimized, but my whole statement you quoted was meant towards people who auto file the game as bad due to it running bad on their systems, with them not even tweaking it a bit and reading what people said about the game before buying. You might be wondering if this is true, head over to the gta benchmark thread, you will get a good laugh.

It is running pretty hot, idling at 60C and jumps up to 80C during game play...

Even with OC my CPU idles at 37C and does no go over 60C under load.

For the past 2 hours i played around with GTA4...even on the lowest possible setting at 1920x1200 it lags...i think it is the heat.

I also played Far Cry 2 for a while, at first everything is fine, but when the GPU starts warming up it starts to slow down.

Heat is a big issue.

80 C is not going to make your card slow down

Congrats on your new setup. Obviously drivers will get better and you will be able to take full advantage. Try some other games instead of GTA 4. Damn....im too jealous.

Sorry but my GTX 260 SLI setup runs GTA IV perfectly, and its a sick game.

Try running it on a 30" ;). It won't even allow me to set texture quality above medium and I've got SLI-ed 260-216's. I guess GTA wants 1 GB memory at that resolution for high texture quality ...... bummer . Guess I'll be stepping up to 285's in 2 weeks :D

128MB more won't give you much.. No system around today can run the game at highest settings, so don't get your hopes up.

You are right, it does not slow down the card, but it does slow down the game play.

It... doesn't work that way, man. Please, please, read up on all this hardware you've just poured a couple thousand in to, so you can make informed and intelligent comments.
