I have 4GB on my mobo, running WinXP 32bit. I play left4dead2 and other valve games, but its only the l4d2 that skips like crazy when im playing. It almost unbearable. I have a 8800GTS 320mb, so I have plenty of memory. Its been 2-3 years since I've upgraded my system, and I think its time. Anyone have any advice on what parts?
 
320 MB isn't a lot of VRAM these days, even for Source engine. You might want to upgrade to a card with 512, 768 or 1 GB. Cards with 128 MB of VRAM were causing skipping when HL2 first came out years ago...
 
I've seen from experience that turning off the multi-core rendering in the game settings will help with that stutter in some cases. I've seen it work in two different cases with systems running Athlon 5000 series dual core cpu's.
 
I have a dual core 2.33ghz? I forget the exact CPU model. What would be a good card budget wise to get this in situation..? a 5850?

This. L4D and L4D2 run like crap on some Multicores.
