Google Zeitgeist 2011

What scares me the most is presidential candidates aren't the top searched topic. Once again it looks like everyone will be voting the party line. We're fucked.

We are getting Obama another 4 years..Because there isn't a single Republican candidate that can honestly even be considered seriously. Not that it would matter either way as both parties are just as bad, but I digress before this turns into a political thing. I agree with you though, one would think after years of retarded things coming out of washington that Americans would have woke up by now and actually "think" about who they are voting for.

If Gingrich gets the nod he will tear the Presidents anus 3 ways till sunday in a debate. However, he is still a racist white man, so he would lose. Still, that would beat watching Tan Man wimper his way to defeat.

If you hover your mouse over the 4 colored bars you get the honorable mention... planking :D

Wait for the 2012 Zeitgeist. Not sure why you would think so many people around the world would be searching for Michele Bachmann already.

I consider Ron Paul seriously.

Ron Paul? The only man who makes sense, and doesn't change his political views to win? I take him seriously.

This reminds me of Asimov's Foundation series where the Galactic Empire ultimately collapsed because nobody cared anymore.

Battlefield 3 FTW!

Ron Paul... some of his ideas are great, but going back to the gold standard is nuts.

Here's is a brief history of what led to the great depression of the 1930s and to Hitler in Germany:

The gold standard didn't help.... Sorry spoiler alert

Nuts? What we're doing now isn't nuts? Fed printing unlimited amounts of money. It's much worse than when we had something backing up our dollar. All he wants is something to back up our dollar.

Once inflation becomes too high they'll stop printing and start taking out money. The Fed has the power to expand and contract the money supply. I prefer this flexibility than to have a suicide pact with the value of gold.

Here's a snippet from the article talking about Germany:
In 1928 and 1929 the party ended and the flow of capital reversed. First, investors sent their money to America to bet on its soaring market. Then they yanked it out of Germany in response to financial panic. To defend its gold reserves, Germany’s Reichsbank was forced to raise interest rates. Suddenly deprived of foreign money, and unable to rely on exports for growth as the earlier boom generated an unsustainable rise in wages, Germany turned to austerity to meet its obligations, as Ireland, Portugal, Greece and Spain have done. A country with a floating currency could expect a silver lining to capital outflows: the exchange rate would fall, boosting exports. But Germany’s exchange rate was fixed by the gold standard. Competitiveness could only be restored through a slow decline in wages, which occurred even as unemployment rose.

You both should know that there is no serious chance at all that he can capture enough of the right wing vote to be a serious contender. So no even though he is about the only one who isn't outright insane, he can't be considered seriously either as he has zero chance.

I didn't know who Reebeca Black was till now ... Really the human race is in the shitter I vote for People to have to take a test that deem's there gene pool sutiable for procreation. :D

It's sadly true. As long as the majority of voting Americans remain sheeple he has no chance. At the same time it's up to you and me to stop saying he has no chance so he can have a chance. :D

BF3 #5 on the list! Nice! lol

I think Ron Paul has the greatest chance of making a difference in Washington... of course, that's just my gut feeling on the matter, I could be wrong... what seems obvious to me is that most candidates are ego maniacs that care more about themselves then anyone else.

As for the zeitgeist thing... only recognized adele and steve jobs... lol, I'm really behind the times it seems, maybe I shouldn't vote :)

Ron Paul should be the candidate. Screw the Republican establishment.

Regardless, Rebecca Black being #1, should pretty well show you that the teenies have some influence.

Youtube generation

Actually I was thinking that perhaps the Google search result included YouTube searches since Google owns YouTube as well.

if this turned into a political debate I can't imagine what's going to happen when we are actually fully into election time.

place is gonna be unbearable.

Go to the Soapbox in General Mayhem. It's election time all the time! :) It's fun, though. All these people being wrong all the time. It's fun to just point and laugh at them. Pfft. Ron Paul. Yea, right. :) I'm kidding, BTW.

I was surprised that BF3 was on there. Yea, I was checking it out, too, but surprised it beat out Apple stuff.

Steve, I want to personally thank you for getting that song stuck in my head. It seems lately I havent had a Friday go by with out somebody mentioning it. And yes this youtube generation is getting out of hand.

I have to admit I searched for Jessica Black several times this year just because I had to show people the notorious video which is getting harder and harder to find in its original form.

These "top searches" always make me laugh. I'm 99.999% sure they're filtered. Here's what the real top 10 unfiltered search probably looks like:

1. Rebecca Black
2. Justin Bieber
3. redtube
4. youporn
5. spankwire
6. Lada Gaga
7. ipad
8. iphone
9. sex
10. god

Remember that these are the "fastest-rising" searches and not most popular.

"Fastest rising" means we looked at the most popular searches conducted for 11 months of 2008 (we compile this list by early December) and then ranked them based on how much their popularity increased compared to 2007.

This is why Rebecca Black, Google+, Ryan Dunn and so on made the list.

It would be interesting to see how many will also be on the biggest drop in searches next year.

Well of course having the gold standard (or any standard) is much harder where everyone else around you continues to cheat. But eventually everyone gets bored of playing in IDKFA mode.

The reserve will never stop printing money. Inflation keeps us from being able to save money and gaining independancy. Its also far easier to just keep printing (especially now when they don't even have to print anything). It's just a long historical game. Eventually this currency will crash. The public will come to its senses again for a short while. And then eventually the central bank will come in a with a solution and we'll start all over.

Too bad zeitgeist isn't at the top. Even if most of it is bullshit, at least it would get people thinking a little more critically about the world around them.

And you should know he does indeed have a chance, a few things to remember;

  • He placed 6'th in Iowa in 2008
  • He will probably win or take 2nd in Iowa this time.
  • He was in the bottom 2-3% in 2008 in the polls
  • He is polling in the 11-18% range in 2011.
  • Paul can swing Independants and Democrats better than anyone else in the race including Obama.
  • Paul's ability to raise money means he will remain in the race until the very end. Soon it will be between Romney, Gingrich and Paul.
  • 75% of the Republican base hates Romney, which leaves Gingrich who has an entire graveyard in his closet.
  • Paul never loses support, he only gains.
  • Paul voters will not vote for anyone else and would possibly vote for Obama
  • If Paul runs third party the GOP will lose

If he can win Iowa and get 2nd or even 1st in NH he would only gain more support and the MSM could not dismiss the wins. It's obvious the establishment is terrified of Paul because of his rising support. Expect Trump to enter the race if Paul wins and it would not be so far fetched to imagine Romney running as an independant as well.

Yes blame everything on Obama

I wonder if you even bother looking at the local people on the ballot or just go straight to the president section
