According to a new report, Google+ is literally a ghost town. To be honest, if the stats provided are accurate, it would be hard for Google to argue that it isn't.

According to RJM's report, the average post on Google+ has less than one +1, less than one reply, and less than one re-share. Roughly 30% of users who make a public post never make a second one. Even after making five public posts, there is a 15% chance that a user will not post publicly again.

because facebook is already big, if facebook shutsdown than everyone will start using google+

If you add everything together, Google+ does seem like the superior platform. But a superior platform isn't enough to topple Facebook. It's pretty clear that Facebook is a "good enough" platform, so it's unrealistic to expect any meaningful amount of switching going on.

There's also the fact that many people and relatives and friends didn't want to switch to find their relatives and friends aren't all there. There's the dilemma of "who wants to be first?" and there's also the other dilemma of "what? another platform to sign up for and post in?", and finally there's the "wtf? no words for friends and farmville? fuck that" dilemma.
 
Facebook beat Google to the punch. Had Google+ been first, I'm sure this would be a very different conversation.

Probably a trust issue. Googles "Do No Harm" mantra went down the shitter when they went public.

It's kind of a catch 22 problem, much like people had trying to get people to use home made maps in PC games. You're not going to use it unless your friends use it. Your friends won't use it unless you use it. So in the end, most don't.

For Google+ to catch on, Google needs to keep it in public conciousness until Facebook breaks down somehow. Google+ doesn't have too many "Pull" factors, so they will have to rely on Facebook providing the "Push" factor.

Whereas the need for good search tools has grown and continues to grow...Even the top-dog now that everyone compares themselves too, Facebook, is bleeding membership. The "social networking" fad is going where fads go slowly but surely it seems.
 
The invite-only start is what hurt them. They had a decent buzz going and people couldn't get in so they lost interest.

Funny you should use the word "Buzz"...there's another failed Google attempt to do anything with, in the same realm of products/services.
 
I use Google+ almost everyday but only because my phone allows me to auto-upload my photos as a backup. Quite handy since I wipe/load custom roms a lot. All my pictures are always available.
 
Facebook will die eventually...which I'm sure we all realize, but there's no real reason to think Google+ will take the place of it. For them to overhaul it enough to make it a better platform, at that point Google would've re-named and re-classified it. Hence they didn't call Google+ "Google Wave" or any of their other failed social networking initiatives.
 
I treat Google+ like I treat facebook, Like a plague that is to be avoided. I however use just about everything else google, so far from a g hater.
 
Not surprised, I didn't really like google + and prefer facebook more. As someone said could be possible that facebook would fade off, but I don't think so for at least some long time.
 
Why would I make any posts at all when none of my friends are there. I don't like facebook, but there is no point to using google+ when I'm by myself.

I still think they are (measured in a few years), and it doesn't mean old users will translate into a direct replacement platform. I think something like G+ only strengthens this idea, as it keeps that much more pressure in the bubble. Google should have just sit back and watch it pop.
 
they need to fix the android google+ app so it works out side of the USA on all android phones (the you have no connection error+ the app it self at 40MB to install is to big to install on most older android phones)

I could imagine that the style of social network changes completely on the next go around. I don't see anyone post actual updates on their FB anymore. But I do see other services automatically posting to FB from friends' accounts. So Facebook on my account has turned into some auto posting spam POS.
 
Sounds about right. I signed up Google+ and posted a few times (less than 10), then I deleted the account.
 
I dont need another "Facebook". My friends and family are all already on the original. Only a few checked out the copy, and they found it wanting. I never bothered.

I believe you can do the same thing with Dropbox.
 
I hope no one is surprised by this. As mentioned:
1) exclusive invite only during critical word-of-mouth phase
2) No gotta have it factor to pull people away from the established player
3) "Do no evil" became "Its not evil if you don't get caught."
 
I have about 200 people in my "Circles".

About a dozen are "following" accounts - celebrities, companies, etc. Those are fairly active (although about half are just auto-reposts from Twitter or Facebook.)

I have one circle that is "everything except 'following'" that covers the people I know in real life.

That circle, right now, has 10 posts in the past week, from four people. Two of those people work for Google, one of those people has one post that says "Is anyone actually still on Google+?" So if I exclude Google employees and "test" posts, I have one legitimate post in the past week, out of about 180 people I am friends with.
 
I personally only use G+ more as a twitter feed than anything else. I'm not on twitter and don't want to clog up my facebook following various celebrity comments so I relegate all that stuff to G+ while keeping my personal things on facebook. While I find G+ technically superior and easier to deal with, the momentum of Facebook is an extremely difficult thing to overcome.

Signed up, put some people in my Circles...never really went on there again.
 
google+ is a dumb name, it isn't a friendly/inviting/descriptive name so this may have some impact on it as well

Google+ is far from a ghost town. What Google+ has is "Jackass-Control"

That alone turns a lot of potential Facebook users off. With no way to troll or cause problems, there's just no point for a lot of people in posting to Google+.

Now, did I just infer that Facebook is full of jerks and trolls? Yes. Yes I did.

Will I also infer that analysts saying G+ is a ghost town are full of something resembling excrement? Yes, I 'll make that inference too.
