Google Glass - $1500

Only in our screwed up country will watching some kids play get you arrested

A few years from now when wearable computing is much more commonplace, we'll wonder how stupid we were to have discussions like this. This is just the tip of the iceberg, you can bet other companies are working on this and Google has lots more they haven't shown yet. Its a fundamental shift in the way we interact with computers.

e.g. you can easily have the tiny glass module in your car so that it projects onto your windshield. In a conference room it would instantly network everyone. For rescue operators it would let other team members share their vision in real time. It is instant situational awareness, army already has lots of projects like this in the pipeline. There is so much potential to tech like this..

for the stereotype of us nerds being smart - there are some pretty dumb fucking people here.

If you are in public - you have no expectation of privacy. You can be watched, filmed, photographed, or I can just sit across from you in the park and stare you down. Not a damn thing you can do about it.

There are however two things that should make you feel better about the whole situation:

1) You don't have to go out in public unless you choose to - you are safe from the prying eyes of the world in your mom's basement, nobody will ever hurt you down there, so calm the fuck down.

2) Nobody actually wants to film you -- yes, YOU. Unless you are causing a scene, breaking the law, or doing something crazy to draw attention to yourself... really.... nobody cares who you are or what you are doing.

The internet tough guys are hilarious - threatening bodily harm to someone just because they chose to embrace a piece of technology? Statements like that quite literally make you look like some back woods primitive ape who's only reaction to something you don't understand is violence.

On the off chance you are dumb enough to follow through with an assault on someone just for wearing Google Glass -- you should be removed from society (jail or death) because honestly, the human race already has far to many humans prone to senseless violence.

+1, Imagine if throughout history people listened to the technophobes...Almost all new technology that comes out has a certain group that swears its the second coming of Jesus and the end of the world is coming...We'd still be in the dark ages thinking the world was flat, the Earth was the center of the universe, and that comets were a sign of impending doom..

Also, as an aside..If you are so up in arms about privacy you sure as hell better be a registered voter who has voted, otherwise you are part of the problem.

On topic, while I don't think this is a [H]otDeal yet, the early adopters will help bring the cost down for us regular folks :p

Lobbying gets shit done, not voting. Voting just allows you to pick which guy will get bribed by the lobbyists.

GM made a fuel-cell car 50 years ago. Guess what? The predominant mode of transport still requires burning gasoline (or diesel depending on what side of the oceans you're on) in a more-or-less traditional internal combustion engine. And fuel-cell vehicles for you and me are no more a reality now than they were then.

All because of corrupt politician's and oil tycoon's buying there place the market. This does not compare at all or the same as google glass does.

I agree, the rich in this country control the government...but still...I hate people that bitch about everything and then don't do anything to try to change the situation...be it voting, getting involved in local politics, whatever...

people have been trying to change things by voting since they invented voting, and somehow things just keep going the opposite way... "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein
