According to this news item, Google is reportedly interested in buying DoubleClick, just to keep Microsoft from getting the company.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Google is now interested in DoubleClick. Sure, Google could build its own DoubleClick-ish network, but why not just buy it for a few billion if only to annoy Microsoft. After all, Google paid $1.65 billion for YouTube, which had nearly zilch for revenue. Google could surely pay the $2 billion DoubleClick's owners want for something that resembles a real business.

Oh, how I had to laugh at...

For those keeping score at home the DoubleClick sales process shapes up like this: Microsoft is annoyed; Google is like the wealthy kid that giggles as he keeps poking you; and the private equity firm that owns DoubleClick is downright giddy.

I hate online advertisements. I like my privacy and I hate adds.

So do I..Which is why many get blocked with my HOSTS file, and the Firefox/ABP ban stick for ones that make it through..Exceptions: places like the [H] and it's related marketing, places that deserve my ad revenue, and where I'm likely to actually buy something. I don't need any more of those damned Viagra and mortgage popups - enough get through spam filters in my email as is.
