My rock solid 939 X2 system died after 4 solid years of problem free usage. So now it's time to build another "beast" that will hopefully last longer. I used Newegg for the past build, but am looking to save as much $$ as possible.

Some info:
============================================================
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming a strong priority with secondary support in photoshop and multimedia.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
Budget is 1.2k including tax/sh. I would love to save even more money if possible. Hell if I can toss out some extra features and get a sub 1k system shipped would be fantastic

3) Where do you live?
The glorious state of California... taxes taxes taxes

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
CPU, Mobo, Ram, HS, HD, VC
If necessary the PSU, DVDROM, Case

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I doubt my PSU is up to the task anymore.
Antec TRUEPOWER2 TPII-550W SLI CERT
Case is an old Antec Solution SLK3000-B ATX Midtower Case
DVD-Rom BenQ DVD Burner Black E-IDE/ATAPI Model DW1640
X-Fi Platinum with internal drive bay (Non Fatality Version)
Logitech Z-4 2.1 Speakers
Audio Technica ATH-A500 Headphones

6) Will you be overclocking?
Yes - Shooting for 3.6 - 4.0ghz on air

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
I currently am using my old Dell 2005FPW with S-IPS Panel
I play at 1680x1050 resolution

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
2 weeks tops

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
I will not use SLI or Crossfire
Raid is a plus since I might consider going Raid0 with 2 WD Black Caviar 640GB drives down the road.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
Windows XP Pro 32bit
Might also tinker with Windows7
I have a unused Vista Business license that will likely remain unused

I have scoured the internets and managed to hammer out a tentative shopping list.

All this comes to about$1106.04 Shipped.
If I add the bing cashback from TD It comes to a total of $1027.59

Now I do have questions regarding my build.
I Know that the UD4P is a solid board, but will not be using SLI ever. Are there alternative options that will run cheaper with robust OC results?

I have not shopped with Tigerdirect before. However I have noticed people being generally satisfied with their service. They seemed to have bought out CompUSA, so I am on the fence on this one. Taxes this time around has really put a damper on the Egg. Should I bite the bullet for the additional $250 bucks in shipping and taxes?

My old DVD drive is IDE, are the newer ones these days running as SATA? If I could banish those IDE cables for good, it might be worth the upgrade.

My case is pretty solid and served me well, will it be large enough to hold my new rig?

Thank you for the critique, I plan on updating this post accordingly as more information is added.

Yeah definitely a good idea to ditch the TPII PSU:
The Truepower I and II series as well as the Smartpower series were well known for their above average death rates due to a poor choice in caps and cooling design. In more specific terms, Antec/CWT specified/used caps that did not respond well to heat. Unfortunately, Antec made the decision to have the PSU fan only ramp at really high temps in an effort to keep the PSU quiet. However, just medium to high temps were enough to screw up the caps so really high temps were murderous. Over time, this degraded the quality and performance of those PSU series.

So I recommend replacing the PSU, especially if you hear a squeal, whine, or any odd noise coming from the PSU. However, do note that the Truepower I and II series as well as the Smartpower series had a three year warranty. So if you do hear a squeal, whine, or any odd noise, that's enough grounds to RMA the PSU.

There are cheaper X58 mobos out there at Amazon.com but they don't OC as well as the UD4P. The MSI X58 Pro-E is a cheap alternative to the UD4P as long as you don't expect too much of a high OC.

Tigerdirect is all right. With a difference of $250 in taxes and shipping, I'd shop at TD as well (CA resident as well so I understand the taxes). The BING Cashback is also a nice touch.

There are SATA DVD burners out there:

The SLK3000-B will be fit your new rig if you remove the entire hard drive cage from the case to fit the video card. Even then it looks it'll be a bit cramped for the motherboard.

For 1680x1050 resolution, the GTX 260 will be more than enough. You can save about $50 that way:

If you want to keep old case and it is standard midi-tower ATX format, there will probably be no problem with installing new hardware. Chceck if you have enough place to install graphics card and CPU cooler. Other stuff such as PSU, mainboard or drives are allways the same size.

Well if you are going to be using a 32 bt OS, there is no point in getting 6 GB as your OS can only see 3 GB of it.
