Was looking for a good zombie game on the PC and was wondering what others recommend. I'm a fan of the walking dead show but not so much the game from watching a few vids. Some that have caught my eye are state of decay, dayz, last island...

Anyone recommend some that I may have missed?

Call of duty zombies world at war specifically because you can install & play modded maps fairly easy , Left for Dead 1 & 2. DayZ is more players trying to kill you pvp & the Standalone version is buggy it's still pretty fun with all the survival aspects crafting splints for broken legs, purifying water/ blood transfusions, & the map is massive.

I thought Dead Rising 2 was pretty fun. I think they're releasing the third one to PC pretty soon.

Dead Island series was surprising fun once I got into it. Of course L4D 1 & 2 are worth it and with all the custom maps and mods have a lot of replay value.

A great f2p especially with friends is no more room in hell its a fun game :) can't beat free lol

this.
the game is very underrated imo.

l4d2 is great also, but it more of a run and gun

State of Decay is gareat if you want a good "survival" zombie game, probably the best at doing that. You actually have to scavenge for supplies, look in abandoned houses, be careful about making noises to attract zombies.

Plus it uses a stamina system for actions so you are not invincible, if you find yourself caught by a horde of zombies you can't just "spam" things or attacks, you have to be wary about over exerting yourself.

Another neat thing is that the game isn'tbased on any "main" character. You start out as one guy and find a group of people to join, then you can switch characters to any character that is a "friend" of yours (not everyone is your friend, you have to earn that).

You can lose anyone, even your main charaicter that you started the game with. AFter this it will switch you to a "friend" and the game continues.

Keep in mind that State of Decay is a pretty mediocre console port. Other than that, not a bad game.

State of Decay is the best zombie game currently on PC in my opinion. Stiler summarized it nicely. :) The base game or the Lifeline DLC has a good mix of sandbox and story elements, or you can get the Breakdown DLC which is a sandbox-focused DLC where you survive each "level" of the map by finding parts for an RV, then "leave" to the next higher level difficulty. Each difficulty changes all kinds of things like how much damage zombies do, how many vehicles are spawned on the map, how sparse supplies and ammo are, the number of special zombies, etc. It also becomes increasingly difficult to find what you need to fix the RV so it really becomes a struggle to survive while you collect everything.

It's my personal favorite way to play SoD.. I think I have over 80 hours in so far. I just get a huge kick out of roaming the towns and countryside, seeing what I can find.

Killing Floor, granted they aren't really "zombies" but rather mutants created by man.

My second pick would be Left 4 Dead and then Left 4 Dead 2.

I'll break away from the mainstream here and suggest Trapped Dead. I bought on steam sale for $2.50 and actually found it to be pretty neat little game. It's like a real time tactics zombie hack and shooter. It's got a really moody feel to it. I don't know why everyone on the steam forums hates on it so much, I guess at release it was horribly buggy/outright broken, but they patched it and seem to have fixed the major issues with it. I never experienced any major bugs in my time with it. Well, that's not entirely true. There was one map in particular, the railway map, that if I didn't make it to the first checkpoint fast enough it would crash to desktop, but was able to get past it. Then there was a particular spot in the library that has respawning zombies that pissed me off for a while. That said, I was able to play to the end and put 20 hours into it.

How to Survive also. It's got some neat ideas, but found it to get repetitive after a while.
Space Pirates and Zombies - not your traditional zombie game (not a zombie game at all really, and they don't even show up until the end) but neat game nonetheless. 160MB...crazy! Got a little repetitive for me towards the end again, but fun for a while. CANNONS FTW!
