This is for home usage. I run one host (gaming) and two VMs (one for all my onling banking, etc and one for my um "research" project).

I'ved tried Sun's Virtual Box and VMWare Server. vbox has a lot of bugs, and vmware seems quite heavy (lots slower then vbox).

Anything else I could try? I basically want to keep my online banking separated secure and keep my um "research" project isolated so it doesn't get "nasty research data" all over my host computer.

Microsoft has a vm now? IS that any good? Other free products for home use?
 
vmware workstation, vmware player. Server is for servers - it's not realtime emulation.
 
Player is free, although its not as easy to create VM's directly in player, but you can create them in server and run them in player
 
The new vmware player allows easy VM creation. Works the exact same as workstation. Creating a VM on it as I type.
 
I'm pretty sure that XP mode is supported in Win 7 pro (I use ultimate). If it is, and all you want to run is XP, then Windows VirtualPC is hard to beat (and free). It is easy, all build around the same vendor (MSFT), and works fine for things like online banking.
