Hey all,

Okay after a couple of months of thinking hard about my big upgrade, I think I've finally decided what to get.

Please note my current rig is:
» Aspire X-Cruiser (Blue) » Core 2 Duo E6600 » AC Freezer Pro 7
» Gigabyte MB » Corsair 2x1GB DDR2 » 8800 GTS 320Mb OC2
» Corsair HX 620W » 500GB WD/280GB Maxtor HD

Here is what my rig will be, after the upgrade:

CPU - E8400 Intel Core 2 Duo

CPU Fan - AC Freezer Pro 7

Motherboard - Asus Maximus Formula

RAM - 4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz

Graphics Card - ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 1024MB

PSU - Corsair HX 620W

HD - 500GB Western Digital

Case - Antec P182

(Bold items are the items that I am upgrading to - standard items are the ones being used from my current rig)

After this upgrade, I plan to; upgrade my screen from 19" to 24", get some decent speakers, and possibly add water cooling!

Basically, just want to make sure you all think this is a good upgrade and all the components work well with each other.
If you have any recommendations on things I should change - go ahead :)

Thanks,
Rezz

I have two questions:

1) How much -- TOTAL -- are you planning to spend on your upgrades?
2) Are you planning on doing some serious overclocking?

Okay, I have one more: Why are you getting the Maximus Formula?

1- Don't really have a maximum budget - But I don't want to upgrade to items that are unneccesary.
2- Not really serious, I'll be overclocking the CPU and Graphics Card, but nothing too major.
3- I heard it's pretty good... is not good? :p

I asked question 3 because you don't really need that specific motherboard. A P35-based board offers the same level of stability and performance for less, and the HD3870x2 can power a 24 inch widescreen monitor on its own.

A) What is your goal with this upgrade?
B) What about your current system makes you unhappy?

Because IMO, you don't need an upgrade. So, why did you choose the parts you did as upgrades?
