Hi, I'm looking for a quality PSU that would be sufficient for this setup, and that would give me decent GPU upgrade possibilities. Any suggestions?

Mobo- TA 770
Phenom II X4
2 Sata HD
9600 GSO (with chances of upgrading to something like GTX 295)

Thanks

OCZ 600w stealthxstream cheap at $69 plus the mail in rebate of $10

(4) 12v rails each at 18 amps
3 year warranty
(can only run 3 sata HDD's)
its a pretty good PSU for its price.

Or if you have a little extra cash by the earthwatts 650
(3) 12 rails 22 amps 22amps 25amp
3 year warranty
(can run 6 Sata HDD's)

Edit: (OCZ 600)keep in mind there are only 4 molex connectors. so get some splitters if you need them or use your pass-through molex's if you have them

The StealthXStream is a mediocre PSU at any price and is only good up to about 500W.

It's not a good PSU for its price considering that is only capable of providing 500W of power safely. Considering that there are better quality 450W to 500W PSUs in that price range as Zero82z shows, there is very little reason to go with the StealthXStream 600W PSU.

i have one in my 8800GTX rig and if supply good enough power for that.

it didn't say it was a good PSU. meaning it was good for light gaming...
ive had that one in my 8800 rig for a while and it does just fine.

ALSO do you know how old the review is.. almost a year old now, im sure they did a revision of this psu, plsu that was there "700w" no there 600w dont judge one of there products over another.

If they didn't then my bad. but i find it a perfectly fine PSU for light gaming.

Good for you. However, even for light gaming, that PSU is still not a good choice considering that there are BETTER quality PSUs for the same price. Just because the PSU worked for you doesn't mean that's its A) worth buying and B) is good.

Yes 500W is enough power for a 8800GTX and most other video cards. However why buy a 600W PSU that can only provide 500W safely when there are better quality 500W PSUs for the same price?

They haven't done a revision of that PSU. In addition, the 600W StealthXStream is based on the same FSP Platform as the OCZ GameXStream 700W as well as these other PSUs:
OCZ GameXStream 700W <== First Review Where the Ripple was Found.
FSP Everest 700W PSU @ jonnyGuru
FSP Everest 900W PSU
FSP Everest 1010W PSU
OCZ GameXStream 1010W
Sigma SP-700 700W PSU

So again, the StealthXStream 600W PSU is a poor buy. Simple as that.

Antec Earthwatts 650W, Corsair 550VX, Corsair 650TX and the BFG LS-550W are all good choices.

If you can find them, the CM Silent Pro 500W is a great PSU that has a modular design, quiet 135mm fan and single rail. I myself use a 600W Silent Pro and I have gotten it to power two 4890's with no problems.
Here is the product

Here is a review

Wow, thanks all,
I'm looking at the Corsair 550VX.
Would it power a decent card in a couple years? Or would I be better off spending a little more for a more powerful PSU?
In other words, should I focus on a PSU for my current rig? or get a PSU powerful enough for something like gtx 295 in a couple years?

I'd be able to tell you the answer to that question, except unfortunately my time machine is out of order at the moment ;).

Don't buy a PSU based on what you think you'll need at some indeterminate point in the future. Buy based on what you know you'll need either now or in the very near future.

Listen to these words of wisdom.

well what kind of PSU would be needed to power either an HD5850, or a GTX260?

If you have a new question, you should start a new thread instead of hijacking someone else's.

The power requirements of a PC depend on more than just the video card, so it's impossible to tell you how much power you'd need without more information, like the CPU, whether or not any overclocking will be done, how many drives will be used, etc.

sorry figured it'd be along the same lines? since i'll also be doing light gaming.

will be running a phenom II x3 720, probably overclocking it, seen it is stable at 3.7, which is 900mhz above stock, 1 sata drive, either 4 or 8GB of ddr3 1600, inside an antec 300 illusion, with 4 case fans and an aftermarket fan on the CPU.

Not really, Your systems are totally different.

But to answer your question, Nothing less than a quality 500W PSU with at least 33A on the +12V rail. Something like this:
$68 - Seasonic SS-500ET 500W PSU

thanks danny, and i do apologize for fumbling around for the last few days. this is my first build, and i'm one of those guys who just hates getting something second-rate when i could've spent a little bit more and gotten more performance out of it.

that PSU has no sata connections it seems, and i'll need at least 2. what are some good manufacturers of PSU's?

and on a semi-related note to the system i posted, is it feasible to air-cool that system or would i be pushing it?

$99 would this be a good PSU for my application?

As Zero82z pointed out, that Seasonic PSU does have two SATA power connections. Good PSU manufactures/branders/companies are Seasonic, Corsair, PC P&C, Antec (Not their Basiq line though), BFG (Not their GX or GS line though), etc. Just hit up hardocp.com or jonnyguru.com for proper PSU tests.

Yes you can air-cool that system. No need for water-cooling.

The Corsair 650TX is a good PSU. If you want to spend the extra cash for it, go for it. Just saying that a PSU as low as the Seasonic I linked to earlier will be enough.

those corsairs are totally worth the money, and the warranty is top notch, and apparently transferrable (the let me RMA one i bought second hand and send me a brand new one)
