I'm looking at all the choices for receivers but only a few seem to have optical inputs..
Any advice?
 
I didn't know HDMI is better I seen sound bars with HDMI not sure if the quality is the same.

HDMI is better because it supports multichannel PCM, Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc. Optical only supports stereo PCM, regular Dolby Digital, regular DTS. Use HDMI if you're getting a new receiver anyway. The only pro for optical is that the plastic/glass cables used cannot cause a ground loop. But usually that isn't an issue anyway.

Since you don't seem that familiar with it I will also point out that you should shop around for HDMI cables. We typically recommend www.monoprice.com for them, where they cost a few bucks a piece. They can be ten times that or even more at a retail store.
 
I didn't know I know with headphones it's different.....

I already have both HDMI ports used up on the PS4 which only leaves the optical.
 
I assume one of those HDMI ports goes to the TV, if you send one to the receiver, the receiver will send video back to the TV. No need for PS4--->TV

I messed up the PS4 only has one HDMI I was thinking of the two USB ports duh!

Won't a receiver potentially add lag? I hook my PS3 up to video 3 and run an optical, even though I just got an HDMI capable receiver (Sony DN-840). I had just swapped out a new panasonic plasma with a quicker one (ST60 -> VT60), didn't want to get those milliseconds back...

For 1080p video w/o processing it shouldn't add noticeable latency. If you pass it something lower and it upscales it then yes it will add latency.

Interesting. I might just leave it on it's own input anyway, so I can just leave that one on "game mode" and all that.
