Finally getting my new PC parts in, except I still have enough for a GPU. I'm still running with a 8600 GTS. I was almost about to consider a 4870 until I heard that a 5770 is almost or possibly better. It's my birthday so I usually end up getting over $100 and I have about $50 on me right now. So what decent price card is going to give me good performance?
 
What's the max resolution of your monitor?
What PSU do you have?
What games are you planning to play?
What are the specs of the rest of your system?

2gb is not going to cut it for some games. 1280x1024 is the worst possible res for modern games which are designed around widescreen. I dont know how you could get by a with a 160gb hard rive if you are a gamer. some games are over 10gb each so you will be doing a lot of deleting.
 
Hmmm the low quality of that Raidmax PSU pretty much limits your GPU upgrade option to the HD 5670. I would not trust that Raidmax PSU with the HD 5770, despite how low power the HD 5770 is.

he has a pretty low power setup so surely a 5770 would be fine.
 
Ignore the naysayers, that Raidmax is not the best, but it should work fine. Just be aware that Raidmax PSU will probably only handle ~350w reliably. Next PSU purchase buy a quality PSU though, like the Corsair 400w model which would handle more power than a cheapo PSU.

I do recommend the HD5770 over the HD4870 because less stain on the questionable PSU and added features (DX11).

Another 1GB stick of memory (3GB total) would help for many new games too.

I doubt it. Athlon II + 5770 will be minimal power usage.

OP on stock cooler you can get 3.2 on stock voltage on that 620. Will help a great deal with gaming.

That'll be 203W for the CPU + GPU alone. Then add in the HDD, mobo, fans, etc, and you're at 250W or so. Still cutting it close with that PSU but it might be doable as some people have said.

But personally, I'm saying that I wouldn't trust it. It's doable but not a good idea IMO.

Ditto

It's not the greatest, but that just means a higher chance of it dying on you, and some skimping on some of the rails. People really overestimate how much power you need. The voltage rails look OK on that. I'm sure it would handle any single video card reasonably. That setup is like maybe 250w total, realistically. I'm sure even a 400w Raidmax could do that.

its a 630.

and i have to say though that i highly doubt he will have psu problems. if it can handle 350w reliably, say 325w for safety reasons, it should be good with his setup plus a decent mid range video card.

go with a 260/5770, about the same performance but both have there advantages

nvidia has cuda which is good for folding and trans-coding videos.
ati has the dx11 going on and iirc tessellation is going on with the 5770 (correct me if im wrong)

not to mention eyefinity ;)
 
260 is even more power hungry than the 5770 and isn't that a $200 video card?
