Good external drive under $50?

I don't need a ton of room but I'd like a decent external for $50-60.

Skimming newegg/amazon I see there is a recertified Western Digital 250GB Passport (blue) for $50, and a recertified black one for $50 also. Not sure if I should trust recertified hard drives.

I like WD along with Seagate but haven't kept up to date on externals.

Is the quality any different or can I trust them as much as the internals? Wouldn't imagine they are much different.

Anyway, here is a link to the one I had in mind. Please let me know if you recommend something else.

Costco, if you have one in your area and are/know a member, has a 500GB WD Passport for about $75. Saw that in the mailer I got a week or two ago.

Sounds silly but I really can't push another $15-25 towards one or I would just grab a 1tb.

Just need something cheap but at least decent brand. And over 100GB if possible.

Anyone else? Saw a 320gb Western Digital Element for $60 off a newegg deal.

Not sure if that is worth it. Do most externals come 5400 RPM or lower?

Yea, they are typically not used for performance reason, backup/storage where speed is not the primary concern.

seriously? how much time and energy are you going to spend contemplating a measily $50 drive purchase? no offense but you aren't buying a condo.

If I had more money it wouldn't be something I'd contemplate as long, but that's all I have atm and I'm trying to find a decent deal.

The person before you answered my questions though.

Have you considered buying the drive and case separately? Might be cheaper in some scenarios. 2.5" cases run as cheap as ~$10.

Not a bad idea actually. Just kinda assumed it would be same price if not more that way but I'll look into it later.

Is the newer WD6400 still a decent drive? I know I have the AAKS, I thought the newer one had a larger buffer size. The AALS I think it was. Ill have to see if it comes in a smaller size maybe.
