My father needs a new video card, His old one crapped out and he doesn’t know which one to purchase. He found a nice ATI Radeon 9600XT 256mb for $88.00 from some store, I checked them out on reseller ratings and it wasn't too good. It was like a 4.16/10

So my dad is now looking for a 256mb AGP card that can support 2 monitors. He currently is leading toward the 9600Pro and XT Radeon's, but just wants a good card that will suite him. He does a lot of business work and uses AutoCAD and Solidworks programs like that. They make 3d models of all kinds of crap.

So like I said above that’s what he needs. Hes really not looking in anything particular; but emphasizes on how he wants a 256mb card; that can support dual monitors. Please feel free to give me any cards that are good and are from a reliable host ex. Newegg, ZipZoomFly..etc



PS heres the site he wanted to purchase it from... I doubt thats even a 9600XT in the picture..
 
tell him to get 128 megs .. 256 ram in those weak of gpus are pointless and usally are low speed or what not,, and that 9600 xt looks fake.. i always remember 9600 Xts having more capacitors and was a bit longer
 
256MB of memory on those low end cards is completely pointless. It doesnt help at all.

I'd suggest looking for a refrub 6600 or a new 9600XT.

I'd get the 6600 because you can OC that mofo to 500mhz on the core easy. Probably 600 on the memory.
 
Thing is my dad doesnt want to overclock, all he wants is to plug it in and never fook with it.

Than get him a 6600. He gets the 8 pipelines without worrying about anything and its already decently faster than the 6200 or 9600 XT. It'll be plenty for what he wants to do with it, and say he wants to take some time to do a little gaming he can do it in style still.
 
If he mostly does Autocad/Solidworks stuff, look for a GeForce that can be soft-modded to a Quadro.

QFT. Or, look for a cheap Quadro/FireGL on Ebay.
 
9800pro's can be found on these forums for around 100. Seen one at 80 the other day.
 
Imagestore is bad. I ordered a retail-box 9700Pro from them a few months back, they sent me something that looked refurb/used. The heatsink was slightly abused, and the metal retaining plate on the back was scratched a bit. Also, the seal on the box had been broken, IIRC.

Also, the card was incompatible with my NF2 mobo, though I don't blame them for that.

But yeah, get a 9600XT. The other option is to find a Radeon that you can mod into FireGL, or a GeForce you can mod into a Quadro.

resellerrating..LOL someone even ordered the 9600xt...256mb too...it was all messed up when they installed it.."garbled" screen according to them and crashes lol..and he had to pay for the rma shipping lol....STAY AWAY is the word for this company :)
