Im ordering the parts for my computer today.

I decided the extra 3 fps the fx-55 gives over the 4000+ sandy isint worth the extra $300.

Im at monarchcomputer.com and Im about to buy the 4000+ Sandy, 2 Western Digital 74gb raptors, and 2 Geforce 6800 Ultras (or GT's, not sure yet), and a DFI SLI Nf4 mobo. After that Ill be heading over to some other sites to buy things like my PSU (OCZ 600w or PC Power and Cooling 510w, which would you guys pick?)

With the DFI, whats the difference between the normal and UT edition?

Should I pull the trigger? SHOULD I DO IT!!!!! :eek:
 
do it, and call it a san diego, sandy is a girls name, and the san diego isnt clocking like no girl. :D
 
the UT is a much better value. the normal version has a whole bunch of stuff that you will never use. look at the package that comes with the box ;)

Yeah, a 4000+ San Diego would be a good choice no doubt....if it was a claw, then no. As far as which PSU? It depends if you like adjusting the rails or not...I had a bad experience with a PSU having crappy rails affecting my box, so I like the PowerStream's adjustable rails....but the PCP&C is the better PSU from what I've heard....but I absolutely love my OCZ 520W, I'm sure the 600W is even more badass. :cool: But yeah, if you can, pull the trigger. ;)
 
if you don't get the FX55 by logic of the 3fps benefit, why get SLI? It really makes no sence whatsoever. hey, congrats on the new possible system, but stay away from SLI, its not worth the 3 FPS for $500 more;)
 
Asus or BFG? BFG no doubt.....lifetime warrenty on their products plus overclocked stock...can't go wrong there.

3 FPS? Are you kidding? SLI warrants HUGE preformance gains.

the test a single 6600gt does better than two. I have heard new drivers are coming to make SLI perform better now though.

ya, SLI gives a LOT more than a 3FPS increase. Personally, I would save some cash and go with the GTs and just overclock them. hell, with the money you save by going with the GTs instead of the ultras, you could get waterblocks for both of them and really have some fun.
As for the power supply, OCZ rocks.. They seem like a really reputable company that works to design their products for the enthusiast community. I am sure PC Power and Cooling is also a good company, but I like to give my support to companies like OCZ.
 
clearly he's exaggerating about the 3 FPS gain. But surely, it's not worth doubling the cost but not gaining double the performance.

Yeah, the Ultras are. ;) *read sig* But eVGA's GT's are clocked @ stock....whereas BFG's are overclocked. I don't have beef with eVGA, they're the Sapphire of nVidia, but between Asus and BFG, I'd take BFG.
 
with the dfi, you will need a zalman fan bracket with a fan over the gfx cards, as due to the single slot (as opposed to dual on the asus) the back card gets very hot......

I have never liked them or trusted them. They might be trying to change but earning back trust with a rating of 5.5 and all the poor feedback just is not helping them.

Goodluck if you do decide to get a PSU from them.

If it was me I would get a Fortron or a Enermax as these are great PSU that you know are good and can trust. ;) I love Fortron and think their 500w PSU kick ass for the money. I personally use a 500w Allied... just look at the amps this beast puts out! :D

Ill get a PC Power and Cooling then since it seems to be the better supply.

I dont know if i should get a GT or an Ultra? What kind of preformance difference will I see?

OCZ memory and PSU are top of the line... IDK where you got the reseller ratings from... That's def. not OCZ... considering you can't even buy direct from OCZ... Not to mention whatever company that is it went out of business 3 years ago...
 
What ever psu you get make sure it has a native 24 pin connection rather then a 20 to 24 pin adapter. I am going to be getting the same board, I checked out the dfi forums and they highly reccomend not using an adapter.

PCP&C makes OCZ look like complete shit. I wouldn't call them top of the line :confused: (in terms of PSU's)
 
Maybe topf of the line is overstating it, but OCZ is no slouch, and should be able to handle anything you can throw at it.

That's the same company as OCZ. OCZ used to be a shadey business. Some people including myself will not turn over my consumer dollar to them and only buy products from companies that didn't rip off the masses.
 
yup, just like msi and dfi used to make crap boards. things are changing :D
 
OCZ DID have problems, but as of around 2003 they have been real good. Ever since they switched owners. Seems to corrolate with the closing of that site no? ;) OCZ is good stuff, from their RAM to their PSU to their RAMsinks to their DDR Booster.

I'm not sure what came of all that but last I heard the name/business was bought out and reopened. And the original guy behind all the ripping off had people coming to his house to kick his ass and the police was involved. I know OCZ will never get my money and I dont recommend them to anyone. The [H] even had some beef with them back then. I guess only time will tell if they are a legit retailer now.

Time HAS told. They have been nothing but solid for the last 2 years. They even have reps lurking around forums in case people need help.
 
I would vouch for the PCP&C psu, I have one in one of my macines (old dell) and it's been running solid for a few years.
