Well, I've decided to go all rackmounted so I'm thinking of buying this case for my main computer. I've got a 19" 42U rack, so I can't figure out if this would fit in there or not. It says it's 16.9" wide, shouldn't it say 19" wide if it's for a 19" rack or what? I'm confused on that.

Anyways, how's this case look, it's in my budget to.

Only thing about this now is I've got no cables long enough to reach from the rack to the desk lol. Gonna have to buy some cables now .

I never had a problem with rack width. But then, I only have mostly 2U and 1U servers on a mobile rack.

The widths should not be any different, can you measure yours (mine is at work [but it's still mine... funny thing])?

It's like 16.9" and the rack is 18.5" from the screw holes. Does that width include the rails for the case or what?

Usually the dimensions they give don't include the rack ears, so that is the size of the case as is. Then they make ears that fit and this leaves you with a dozen diff ears of all sizes for random things. I looked at this case because it had a shallow depth of 15 inches but not enough drive bays.

I suppose you can read all the details and look up the exact specs on wikipedia
but a 19inch rack isn't exactly 19 inches. it's like 18.5 to make up for the screw size and support and all that.

If you want cheap/free, you could also put a WTB thread just to see what ppl have to offer... Some ppl might have an older 4u they wanna let go for 20-30$ shipped... or free local pickup...

Ockie always seems [or at least used to] have good things to say about norco, and he's really into the whole rackmount thing, so I'd say it'd probably be a fine case.

The case is 16" wide so you can use the drawer slide type things. Forgot what the technical term for them is, but they let you slide the case out of the rack and still have it supported by the rack...

I'm assuming you are talking about rails. Just be careful you have enough cable length to slide the server out or else you could pull the power...yes, I had a long day at work.
