GK104 is yet to be seen.


HD7950 looks like it is close to HD7970 performance.


Buy HD7950 now or wait for GK104?


Tough to be patient.
 
its not close to. The 7950 can be overclocked to get to 7970 speeds,but then again, you can clock teh 7970. The price difference is as big as 80 and as little as 50. So why not throw the 50 and get the stock 7970.
 
Wait for the GK104. If rumors hold true, we should be seeing them in the wild very soon. You've waited this long, what's another week?
 
why the hell are you making these threads?

you're not even asking people their input on two actual products (something which would make sense) - you're asking people to pile more unvalidated rumors onto the kepler pile and then compare rumors to a product which is currently available

i have a fantastic notion - wait for kepler to be released then make an informed decision based on, oh i don't know, actual performance data maybe?
 
Do you need performance now? If not, wait. Even if Kepler isn't better than the 7950/7970 (probably not much, if at all, with the mid-range part that's coming) it'll almost certainly be cheaper, which will drive down 7950 pricing at least. I really can't see Nvidia launching the GTX 660 at $450.

then suck up the extra $20 price increase, and refrain from seeing "One for the Money" with Katherine Heigl & John Leguizamo. there - evens out.
 
I agree with you Corporate. Peeps need to stop with this nonsense. I hope you guys wait forever so you can just come up with more dumb ass theories and hypothesis...es and just sit there. Waiting......forever.

It's easy to wait out through this corporate greed when you have a decent video card to play with.

My GTX470 does fine for me. I would like something better but not at current prices.

Remember when the GTX580 launched at $570+ and all these same folks were crying so loudly about "corporate greed"....? Ya, me neither. :p

I was thinking the exact same thing.
 
When there is a die shrink, the mid-range part is able to match the old high-end part. The 5770 ended up as fast as the 4870, the 460 ended up as fast as the 285, the 4670 ended up as fast as the 3870, The 7900GS ended up as fast as the 7800GTX, I don't remember any other relationships right now but I think you get my point. I think GK104 will be somewhere in between the 570 and 580, but closer to the 580. If my prediction ends up being right and the suggested price of $300 ends up being true it's going to be one hell of a performer. If...

To add to this, I'm also looking forward to seeing how well nVidia's cards overclock. SemiAccurate was saying a few months ago that SI is using the low-wattage low-performance node on the 28nm process, and Kepler is using the the high-performance/wattage process. If that's the case then GK104 may reach even higher clocks than the 7900 series is. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see. It's good to be a gamer at the enthusiast level (though I'm not :().

7950 is here, you can buy it, and is easily beating Nvidia 580 with BETA drivers. Since it's a brand new architecture, there will be huge gain with upcoming AMD drivers...

The GK104 is a rumor, not on the market, and we don't have a clue when, and how much it will be.

If it comes out next summer, then AMD will be ready with something else also... Do you want to wait the neverending waiting game?

And if the GK104 is better then 7970, it will cost MORE. We are talking about Nvidia here. Don't expect 580 performance for half the price, lol. The 580 is STILL overpriced today. :)
 
wait for actual kepler benchmarks then you can make a decision. atm its just a bunch of speculations/rumors spreading.

but performance/price the new 7xxx gen sucks monkeynuts. i mean when 5870 came out i gladly paid 450 for it and upgraded my 4870 because it was twice as fast.... and now....
 
Considering GK104 is May and that it will be slower than GTX 580 I don't think it is drawing the right comparison.

what the ???? a overclocked 7970 can get within 10% of a 6990 lol.....

i didnt have to overclock 5870 and it was already faster than 4870x2. and its not 550 dollars to begin with. if you think the pricing is justified ur either bloody rich or you heavily favor amd for some reason.
 
So wait let me get this straight.

You have a 470 right now that allows you to play your games just fine but you want a new one just to bump the gfx.

Ok thats fine but really ask yourself what you need Out of the card? would the 7950 work for what you need it to do And fit in your budget? If so then get it and quit worring about whats going to come out otherwise you'll be waiting for ever.

Just get what WORKS FOR YOU.

That's not actually true though. The only games the 5870 won in were games with either non-existing or poor CFX performance. In games with good CFX performance the 5870 was still a fair bit behind in terms of fps, though it arguably provided a smoother experience in general. I.e. just like the 7970vs6990 now. There's also the fact that AMD greatly improved their CFX performance for most games with the 69** series, which made it more difficult for the 7970 to catch up than it was for the 5870.
