    Hi all,

    I got the gigabyte ga-ex58-ud3r.
I've been told it has super high electricity consumption. Does it true?

Yes, it will cost you approximately 3,000 German Marks per day to run.

Luckily, I have a huge stash of them. To save you the hassle and money, you can send it to me.

    Bit Cruel.

The motherboard itself won't use much power - like 10W. But the graphics card and the CPU you plug into it will.

All motherboards do not use that much power. X58 boards in general used a bit more to drive the IOH (those 36 PCI-E lanes aren't free) but shouldn't be over 30w.

In the other hand, most X58 CPUs are rated for 130w, even more when OCed. Add to that a good GPU, and you can easily use up a 750w PSU.

I've had one of those before with a i7 920 & 980X EE, I noticed that you would need a quality 650W PSU at a minimum if you're going to be using it full-time with a good graphics card. Although, it died on me when I used the EE chip after 3 months. So I probably had bad luck. Either way, it should be fine if you kept it cool, because the NB and MOFSET heatsinks got really hot often.

truth there, the IOH on X58 gets blistering hot, especially if you have the CPU under water
