I really don't want to start another thread about overclocking the DS3, but I've read the sticky, gone to other sites and have generally not gotten very far in pushing (overclocking) my system from stock
Goal:
===
Overclock the system mildly without introducing any noise (i.e. non-intel cooler)
System:
======
Gigabyte DS3R F10 Bios v2.0
*** Hit CTRL F1 in BIOS
Set 5-5-5-15 1.8V memory to 4-4-4-15 2.0V
Disabled throttling (C1E/EIST) for overclocking purposes
E6750:
CPU Voltage is 1.35
Intel Stock Fan
Palit 8800GT (overclocks nicely to 650/980 from 600/900). You can even underclock it to reduce temps (49C idle/75-80 Load with RivaTuner fan throttling).
Trials:
1) Set system to AUTO then overclock to 370x8 (2.960Ghz). This is with memory 5-5-5-15 @1.8V. Temps are 47C idle/65C load - very hot! LAN Failed to operate properly until system shut down AND power shut off.
Reported solution: Increase voltage to northbridge?
2) Set 350x8 (2.8GHz)
Volts 1.35
Temps are 47 Idle/60-62 load.
Orthos stable - 10 min
Pi tests - fine
Result was that I left torrent running, but then google desktop got error, then winamp, then a 0x00000 memory error and a BSOD.
3) 338x8 (pathetic overclock):
Stock Volts.
Will see if a small overclock like this will be stable.
Temps are 42 Idle/57 load.
I am bumbling about my overclocks. I really should start at a base line then move the FSB and voltage as required. But I already see temps get high very quickly. Note this is with FAN increasing with temps, which would be my goal with the final overclock.
Is it too early to tell if my C2D will require more voltage (hence more heat and therefore a need for a better cooler)?
Will increasing FSB Volts, PCIe volts by +0.1 help stability? I don't want any damage to my precious GT, or damage any component of my system. As such I'll watch for load temps to not exceed 60C
What's VDroop? While I have 1.35V, CPU-Z reports much lower volts. I don't feel I should up my volts to 1.5 (the max for E6750) just to get the 'proper' voltages.
