My DS3 Mobo seems cannot detect the temperature of CPU and Chipset accurately. Here's the everest test report. The temperature of CPU and Chipset is really low. But I can feel that the Northbridge heat sink is very hot!
Does any one have the same experience?

Your CPU temp looks OK.

Use a program like CoreTemp to get the official numbers for your CPU.

The heatsink on the DS3 northbridge does get very hot to the touch but it doesn't seem to effect stability too badly. If you are worried about it then mount a small fan on it using a cable tie or something similar.

Hmm, does system temp report temp by northbridge or south? I know some asus was actually monitoring by the sb. I ask this since my system stays at about 33'c. I've had my system on my desk with a 120mm resting on the video card and cpu heatsink such that it was pushing right on the nb and flowing down the heatspreaders on the ram. Doing so, the heatsink on the nb was kept cool to the touch. As a test, I removed the 120mm and the heatsink got real real hot but system temp still registered only 33'c. I should have fiddled with southbridge cooling to see if it would change the temps any, but I just threw it in a case and called it a day

Thank you guys!
I have two 120mm fans next to the processor and NB, I think the temperature won't be a big problem. But I really wanna know what causes the low temperature report. Maybe the motherboard temperature is from SB. But the CPU temperature is much lower than that of each core, it seems weird.
What is the top speed of the Intel Core 2 Cooling fan?

slightly under 2k i believe

Newer bios available than what you're using? Sometimes they recalibrate the temp sensors with newer bioses.

I have the Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2, which is the little micro-ATX brother of your board. Yes the northbridge gets damn hot. I also just had my motherboard die after 35 days of use. Not wanting to wait for Gigabyte tech/repair support, I ordered another from NewEgg. I'll RMA my old one later.

The new one arrived and its working now, but that northbridge is still hot. Googling around seems to show that these Gigabyte x965 chipset boards have heat problems on the northbridge. I plan on buying a small fan to put on it. I'm going web shopping right after this post.

Yeah, I'd definitely look at a small 40mm fan for the northbridge. Probably a more efficient way of fixing the problem rather than replacing the whole passive cooler. Another thing you might try is taking it off and reapplying thermal paste (AS5 or something like it) to the heatsink. Usually the thermal pads they use aren't the greatest.

Currently, I'm using the stock intel heatsink on the cpu, and there's plenty of flow that goes across the heatsink. Looking at the way the fins are oriented on the nb heatsink, it looks like this was the way they had intended for things to work. However, I've got an arctic freezer 7 coming in the mail tomorrow, which goes sideways so I don't think it'll work out anymore. I do have a 120mm in the rear, a 120mm on the bottom of the psu, and a duct that goes from the side of the case to the cpu heatsink (although I might have to do something about this since again, the freezer is going to be sideways). Maybe I'll take the duct off and put an 80mm there.

I used the DS3 with the AC Freezer 7 Pro for about a month. I didn't have any stability problems. The passive heatsink was very hot to touch though. I was limited to around 3.2Ghz with my 6600, but when I moved to a P5W DH, I can hit 3.3Ghz. I think it's because of the northbridge heatsink.

If you're getting a Freezer 7, I'd put a small fan on that northbridge or if you rig up that 80mm fan, you'll be doing better :).

Passive to start. Its going in an antec 900 so there's plenty of airflow already.

hmm this is kind of interesting now. The stock heatsink on the nb is absolutely blistering now that I got my AC Freezer Pro 7. I thought about it for a while and figured since I have a 120mm on the bottom of my psu, I turned the freezer 90degrees with hopes that it would pull air across the nb. It's still smoldering though, with a negligible difference. Temps for the cpu didn't seem to climb any though, so I might leave it this way. It got me to thinking.. maybe if I got one of these thermalright nb heatsinks, I could mount it so that it was parallel to the fan and thus be able to get cooled quite well. No doubt it'd up my cpu temps a bit. Probably just going to save up for water (been saying that for years, but it's starting to look like it's more and more reasonable now that this heat is getting out of hand)

why not just try a 40mm fan first? All you're looking to do is move some air over it. Why spend $30 for a heatsink when you really only need a fan?

I have about same temps on my DS3. I think its the new bios, I have the f8a, and I don't remember the temps being like this before. It's reporting my system temp as 45c and my cpu temp as 30c, backwards. Both my Nb and Sb are about 60c right now, and it's less effort just to replace stock cooling then trying to figure out how to get a 40mm fan to stay where you want it.

Nah he's got a point. I would have put my 40mm on but it got broken while being in storage for al lthese years. There are four long screws for 40mm fans and they go in between fans perfectly and lock on tight. Real easy to do

Those temps aren't backwards. Try going into Windows and running Orthos. You'll notice the 30C jumps to 50C or so in 15 seconds ;).

Ah, didn't think of doing that. I need to get some cooling on my NB, but putting a fan on the stock hs won't fit with my infinity. The one the OP linked may work though. And I'm not sure how you are gonna use 4 screws on a mobo that only has 2 holes for the chipset btw.
