GF100 - fermi specs revealed

Well if using the fillrate numbers and past examples seems like that GTX 380 will be equal to 5870 in performance, sadly.

By past examples I mean 4870 vs 260. 4870 had a lot worse fillrate numbers yet was still equall in performance. Same thing with 4890 vs GTX 280/285.

Feeling pretty bad about NVIDIA right now having to "leak" pictures in order to get any positive buzz about its product. We still understand GF100 will be shown working at CES, but I don't think hardware will be in the hands of editors till Late February or March. I still think there is about a 50/50 chance of GF100 product not showing up in any real capacity till April. :(

all we hear about is GF100.. what about the rest of the lineup? i have not heard anything about mainstream and low-end unless more shrink and re-brands are gonna cover that segment

most of the numbers of the gtx380 are > than that of the 5870....

let's see if nvidia gets it to market and doesn't turn out to be another 3dfx....

Right, but most numbers of the gtx295 are "better" than the 5870...

If you compare the numbers between the gtx295 and the gtx380, they seem to be at par...

If true I don't think this bodes will for Nvidia especially since AMD will most likely have a refresh
sometime in Q1...

Gotta love ATI fanboys grabbing to anything they can to feel good about their cards...face it guys, it is almost always the same, Nvidia WILL beat ATI then ATI will come out with something new and beat Nvidia and so on...this aint Intel and AMD where AMD cannot catch up with the higher end anymore, Nvidia and ATI always trade leads ...you should know better by now.

Do you think it will be faster than 5870 Kyle?

im not kyle.. but most likely it will be around 10-15 fps faster which is my guess if those numbers are correct..

has a higher shader count(and yes we all know nvidia's shaders are far more efficient then ATI's 5 way shaders).. along with 384bit GDDR5.. so it should be a tad faster.. the difference will be in how much its tuned for GPGPU which may gimp the gaming performance..

still doesnt change my mind at all about going to the 5870.. even if they are 15 fps faster then the 5870.. im not paying 600 dollars for a gfx card and im sick of dealing with nvidia's drivers..

agree

At least April is just around the corner and coming up fast then Nvidia will pwn all for the next 5 years this round. High five

jesus, 3dfx didn't die because they were late, they died because they bought stb, and got way into the hole, alot like amd. no idea why they though being a board manufacture was a good thing, but if they had just not bought that damn oem, they would would have been fine.

AMD is catching a ton of breaks - the $1.25billion settlement, Intel cancelling Larrabee, and nVidia with delay after delay. If they couple that with a good Bulldozer launch in 18 months, things are really looking up.

Yeah ATI drivers are awesome....

I really don't want to get into a pissing contest here, but I have to disagree with that statement completely.

I am a very loyal nvidia user, no doubt. I've had nvidia cards since the Ti4600 straight through to the GTX 285,plain and SLi. Nvidia has had their share of shitty drivers as well. I hated the 4870 X2 due to bizarre driver issues.

That said, I have had not one single driver issue with my Crossfired 5870s or my single 4870 512 card.
The only complaint I currently have is that EyeFinity doesn't have Crossfire support.

I don't know if you ever had ATI products, but speaking without experience isn't helping anyone.

Sorry if I got off topic, I am not trying to troll anybody or start anything.

I'm merely stating the facts from my experience over the past two years with ATI products. I don't have any experience before that with their drivers, I haven't owned that many Radeon cards.....4870,4870 X2, both types Crossfired (Imissed the "dongle"contraption thank goodness) and now 5870s.

Yup, rebrands all around for at least 2, most likely 3 quarters.

Midrange and mainstream Fermi variants are literally nowhere to be found. Not even a simple tape out because they have the same memory controller problem as the bigger brother. Remember, this is the first time Nvidia is using GDDR5 on its graphics cards and does not have as much experience with it as AMD which has been using since way back when the HD4870 launched. These problems with the memory controller are the main reason why the GT240 was so late as well.

Nvidia are in a truly sad position right now.

I think their time and money would be best spent in creating a really enthusiastic community support; namely; sort out their fucking drivers.

I chose my current 8800gts over ATI's offerings at the time partly because I was sick of ATI's stubborn attitude with their driver development. Nvidia has fixed aspect ratio scaling in their drivers, ATI does not, Nvidia got my money.

But right now nvidia's drivers are nothing short of shocking.

If they worked hard on putting out quality drivers and made all current cards rock solid then Fermi will sell itself when it arrives.

What I want to know is if it supports triple monitor technology similar to eyefinity.

Specs look decent but it's still vaporware until it appears on store shelves. Those waiting on Fermi will have to wait a few months more.

When Nvidia makes 1 good card, they go home and relax, when ATI makes 1 good card, they go hom and start working on the next generation of cards.

We won't see GTX360 or GTX380 in our computers until May of 2010.

Guys, nvidia just filed for bankruptcy and Jen-Hsun Huang has shot himself and 3 other people. turn on cnn right now!

actually just read this over at fudzilla, a little "troubling" to say the least.

fudzilla said:
To further clarify, some partners might actually go under. We don’t want to name any names at this point, but particularly in Europe, some big names might disappear waiting for Fermi.

who are the european Nvidia partners?

I remember when Vista came out and Nvidia didn't even have SLI drivers for it. WTF?

Makes me glad that both companies are still neck and neck, definitely keeps the development going. I remember back in the day having a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and thinking, "self you are the shiit!"

Then I switched to an Nvidia 6800 then 7800, then 7900 gt in 2 card SLI (1st SLI for me) then (took a break) before getting my 8800gtx, which led to a short jump to a 9800GX2 (with built in SLI) and my latest card which is sitting on my desk having just arrived today ... (drum roll!) my new ATI 5870!

i wonder how many ppd it will do with an opencl powered f@h

i hope that ati steps up and keeps up the pressure we all win in the end if they do

is it too early to sound the "nvidia is going to end up like 3dfx!" horn?

5870 is an excellent video card.
Through the course of this year I've gone from 9800GT->4890->5870->5970. 5870 was undoubtedly a beastly single gpu solution. Ran it at 975/1300 with no problems and it could go to 1ghz core if you could tolerate the noise.

Problem is most everyone is saying we're not seeing anything until March/April.

This is only a win for NVidia if we assume AMD doesn't have something better coming out in the same timeframe but they've got such a huge lead at this point they could very well come out with a really competitive product.

are you saying that nvidia will have a competitive product or ati given all the time?

i wonder if the fermi will really bring in $ from the HPC market for NVIDIA and if opencl will level the field for ATI in that market. thoughts?
