Getting Our Butts Kicked

My PpD is going to drop to only ~25k as I've just lost one of my boxen.
It started rebooting on me and I can now no-longer remote into it.
With my broken thumb, it may well be a week or two before I can start to work on it.

Has anyone made any recent reconnaissance missions to the other teams' forums lately? Curious to know what's going on there.
 
MPC is doing a lot of team contests to get people to get new hardware and overclock hardware, so they're doing a big push in getting people using their rigs to the max. Since they have a larger proportion of SMP folder than us (I think they average about 200 PPD/Processor, and we average about 160 PPD/processor), they have huge gains from this.
 
What can we do to encourage people to join other than what we have...more contests? aldamon's GenMay thread helped, and I know there is a contest coming up, but that thread fell off page one a while ago.. (I bumped it)...

I've got a couple hard drives I could donate if that would help....

They also have many members above the 30k PPD mark. In addition, they have something we can never have, a print magazine...

I'm a bit confused, because that forum has been made into it's own site combined with a few of the non-computer-related forums which usd to be here like the automotive forum.

Here, there is General Hardware, General Software, and General Gaming, but no more General Mayhem...

OK, I was aware of it but thought it was under a different domain name. Aren't I eligible to access it since I'm over a million points? I had forgotten about that...
 
You should be. Maybe ask Kyle about it? I don't really know exactly how that works...
 
If some one is willing/wants to buy a couple old lappys from me or a HP pocket PC I can build another rig or 2 :D and set them a folding.

I was just there a half an hour ago doing some recon, and didn't notice that thread. They do have another thread about this thread, though. Funny how both teams are talking about each other back and forth, but I've seen that sort of thing happen many times before. It's to be expected when competition becomes heated.
 
I just took a trip over there my self to see what is going on ...

Nice little war we have going. I am happy both teams are being cool about it.
They do seem to like the fact that FLECOM has taken a dip for a couple days.

But in the end, it is all for a good cause ..... and we have to remember that!

I guess I am gonna have to be more "Alchemist" then Evil for a while.
I need to turn something into gold so I can swap my E2140 for Q6600.......

That is a scary thought .......

Just saw this on their forums - I agree with them being a little cocky

This alone condones sufficient reason to slap them with a giant trout in their faces... :D I guess they do have a reason to be cocky. fewer folders, higher avg ppd, they are competitive.

But this in all isn't enough for them to wake up and be scared for when flecom gets all angry and decides to borg with SMP clients, however be glad he's waiting until the stable client comes out giving you a little more hot air to exhale out for a bit more while.

All I know is they better watch out for when I bring back up my A64 3500....those 200 PPD will be going for their throats :D

plus the new cooler for my quad and that overclock will help a touch ;)

It's very ironic actually, because in the past when [H] used to fight the epic battles we always had to contend with the big 'farmers' from the other teams which we sorely lacked in those days. People on this team used to say that it's both a good and bad thing to have a big gun, for if and when they can no longer provide even if it's for a brief period, the whole team suffers. It's an Achilles heal to be partly dependent on a farmer. We used to rely on volume alone in the old days, especially from the resilient mid-tier ranks, of which I belonged. That was where our strength had always come from.

It certainly is a blessing and a curse. That being said, I think we've done a pretty good job of late of gaining more reliance on ourselves, rather than relying on FLECOM's freakish numbers. The fact that we are only 50k PPD short of MPC without FLECOM throwing out his usual huge numbers shows just how well we're doing as a team. With just a little bit more of a push, we can easily regain top PPD. I mean, 50k is only at most 20 Quads or (give or take) 40 Duals, and I'm sure we could pull that off with some well placed recruitment.

True enough, 20 quads isn't all that much for a team of this size. Several hardcore enthusiasts can approach that number alone, along with a smattering of duals from others and we're ahead again in PPD.
 
Damn, I need to get my stuff back up and running. Right now I'm only running SMP on a 4800+. I took my Q6600 box down to do a water cooling build and repair a broken windows install.

I don't see getting my other quad, two X1900XTs, E6700, and Opteron 170 and 165 up anytime soon, saving money for a home theater.

Don't mistake pride for cockiness..we're extremely proud of all of our folders and the good doctor was stating a fact...when MPC gets cocky.....you'll know it :p

We also have a thread here to make sure nobody is being misunderstood. We're all folding for Stanford and these bits of verbal (well, written, really) sparring are all done in good fun. You guys have been remarkably polite and classy, which has been noted in in a few different threads.

Enjoy that first place spot you guys have..it'll be ours in about (goes and checks stats) 17.3 years!! :D

Don't underestimate the power of the [H]orde kids... They will spank you in 10-15 years as long as we hold the delay and no cure is found ;)

 
It looks like we're doing better now. As of today, our PPD has reached the 900k mark once more and no team appears in our threat list. Keep up the good work guys!!
 
Added 2 more dual quad core boxes (HP DL360 Gen5s), I'll see if I can borg a few more today.

 
I tossed an older Q6600 I got from a friend onto a folding rig today and added my name to the team. You should see it pop up later. I'll get a heatpipe for it so I can overclock it later. It's barebones right now.
