Getting DD NV-68, should I get a second radiator?

My WC kit looks as follows:

MAZE4 CPU Block
Black Ice Pro Radiator 120mm
Eheim 1048 158 G/H 110V 60Hz Pump
DDBay Reservoir High Density Polyehylene

I am going to be adding a NV68 to the loop and was curios as to what would be smarter. Would a 2nd radiator help, so I am not sending hot water through one of the blocks, or will it not do much? Would that added tube be an issue also? Think that pump is up to pushing that much water?

That pump is a little weak, and if you add a second radiator the pump will flat out not handle it.

A second radiator is not needed as much as a larger radiator is. The temperature of the water, contrary to popular belief, DOES NOT get much hotter at all after coming out from a waterblock, the temperature difference of the water is usually less than .5C between the inlet and outlet on a waterblock. You dont need to worry about sending the water through a radiator before sending it through a waterblock.

What you do need to take into consideration however is the amount of heat your radiator(s) can dissipate and the amount of heat your system is putting out. That is what will effect water temperatures and performance.

IHere is what I would do. I would either get a larger Radiator and larger pump and add it into your existing system and replace the old rad and pump with the new ones.

OR

Run another radiator and pump on an aditional loop from the resivour and to the vid card. so then you would have a single res feeding 2 pumps that run 2 radiators. (1 pump puming before each radiator) one loop could be for the vid card and the other for the CPU.

If it were me I would do suggestion #1 and go with a 2x 120mm or 3x120mm rad and a larger pump.

But thats Just my 2c

ok, one thing I am concidering....tell me if this woudl be better...

RBX Block
Black Ice MicroII (dual 80mm)
Hydor L35

Your system is OK as it is, the extra money you will spend will not produce enough benefit to justify the cost.

right now, maybe not, but like I said I will be adding a block for my GPU. Will the radatior and pump still be able to keep up when I throw that into the loop?

Also, its only lijke $30 more.

I would dissagree. I belive that his intent is to be able to overclock and keep temps pretty good With only a single 120mm rad wont be enough to cool a Oced A64 cpu and a 6800 ultra thats overclocked as well. Better to have to much then be right at the edge or not enough. I still say more radiator is needed and The only reason for another or a larger pump is cause the restrictions placed by adding another rad or even a larger rad the current pump he is running wont cut the cake for flow.

The Hydor L35 wasnt much more, and appears to be much better. Is that a good pump? far as radatior goes, I am trying to keep everything internal. A dual 80mm radatior is something I can mount ont he pack of my case. I coudl also mount a single 80mm on the top...but would adding another radatior help? Keep in mind I am gunna have a dual drive bay resavior which will give the water some time to rest...which should also help it cool a bit. I am very much so going to be overclocking, so I want to get the coolest system possable without breaking the bank.

Ok, In all truth and reality a resivour has absolutly no perfromance values at all. The only true functios of a resivour is to help in filling and bleeding air out of the system and to look pretty. The water in our systems are never at rest and there for that is why you get no cooling benifit. The ONLY way to increase the effiicentcy of the cooling system is a larger and/or more efficent heat exchanger (radiator) and more cfm blowing upon it.The dual 80 might help but its not going to be much is the only problem. I really would like to see how your stuff is set up have any pics?

well...if the resevoir is largest enough it will help in the performance some....say 10 gallons maybe :D . Then again, I think you would be hardpressed to fit 10 gallons of water inside your case :)

I dont have it yet. The order is placed with DangerDen, but its currenty oh hold, I am paying with a money order. I am free to change parts right now, which is why I am thinking about getting the better parts. I wont be $60 more for the new pump and whatnot, because I dont have the other stuff. As far as the radatior and pump situation goes, I just wanted to make sure waht I had picked out was good enough before I got it.

The biggest issue seems to be the radatior right now, so lets adress that. My case is a Chenming 602 if that helps anyone. It has two 80mm fans in the back, so that seems to be the best option. Thats why I was wonder if addind a second radatior woudl be any good. Even if I went from radatior 1 right to radatior 2, would that have any effect, or do I just need to get the biggest single radatior I can?

I’m not familiar with your pump, but I’ve had a lot of success splitting the flow from my radiator to the CPU block and GPU-->NB blocks. I’ve got a heater core (2x120mm size 2x fans pull-only configuration @ ¾ throttle). I have no trouble getting my water back to ambient. I’m guessing that you should be okay with a single 12cm radiator if you implement a push+pull system. If worse comes to worse you could always get a single or dual 80mm radiator and add it to your circuit and beef up the pump.

I’d try these in sequence assuming you’re running the NV-68 + Maze-4.
1.) keep radiator add second fan to implement push+pull flow. If your H20 doesn’t hit ambient, go to 2.
2.) Try to find a dual sized radiator/heater core that will naturally fit your case eg. Dual 120mm or dual 80mm radiator. If serious chopping is required (don’t do it!) try and find a second radiator that will natively fit the case.
3.) If your pump can’t handle the new circuit …upgrade pump.

My $0.02 good luck with the NV-68, I LOVE MINE!
