Getting Bluescreen on 680? help

I built the system myself. so its not a prebuilt system, i should have mentioned this in the first post. my apologies.

I lowered my RAM to 1333 from 1600. last night at some point and i've so far had no new crashes.

Still got no idea if it helped anything or if im jsut lucky tho. jsut read a tip somewhere about that so.

Listen, don't go randomly changing things because if you end up making things worse you likely won't remember what you changed. If this is your first computer, then you are going to really have to start reading the forums to learn how to troubleshoot all of these things yourself.

Now, like others have mention the problem seems to be memory related. Either your voltage is not high enough (most likely), or you have a bad stick(s) of ram. I've seen no mention that you upped the voltage on the RAM as others have recommended, so do that first. If you can't figure out how, then look over the manual for your motherboard or check the manufacturer forums (who probably will just point you to the manual anyway).

Voltage of the RAM states on the box to be 1.5V. in the BIOS it says they are running at 1.65 - 1.68. going back and fourth. so upping the voltage to 1.65 .. well.. what will that do when its allready tehre ? ><.. i dont understand. and i have changed nothing but what frequency my RAM run at.

What brand of RAM, what speed and how many sticks?

Change the voltage from auto to 1.65 (even if it already varies in windows), and then test.

When i looked at the RAM voltage. and tried to change it. whenever i hit enter it went 1.650000. is that normal or did i do that wrong ?. ive only hit the use optimized defautls thingie like someone else pointed out.

That's normal. Leave it at 1.65 and let us know how it goes.

Changed it to 1.65, on the left of it it said 1.67 tho. guess ill jsut have to wait now then.
so far since i changed teh RAM frequency to 1333. ive had no crashes or bluescreens

Yeah but you are underclocking the RAM which defeats the whole purpose. If you can't run stable at stock CPU speeds with RAM at 1600@1.65v, then RMA it.

Allright. changed it back to 1600Mhz. well. i guess theres nothign to do now but to wait.

but i guess i can ask anotehr question meanwhile :p i have two. dunno if you can assist me with them tho.

1#. i dont know if im simply missing some software or something. but when i load up a Twitch.tv Channel. it loads the chat forever. and every 10-15 seconds or so. that particular site freezes up?. then unfreezes after a good 5-10 seconds. keeps repeating it. no idea whats wrong :/

2#. My Windows live messenger. (msn) is blurry ?. i know it has to be something graphics related. but its the only thing that IS blurry. text. window. whole thing. is blurry. if i click on the window. or an open chat tab. then it becomes clear as normal. for liek 2 seconds. then fades back to blurry mode ><.. any idea whats causing that?.

Weird never seen that. Tried updating video drivers?

I hate the MSN client with a passion. You could try alternatives like Trillian or Pidgin. I use the former myself.

id love to. but sadly a few select old bestest friends and so on. only use MSN :/ i can live with it being blurry. but. its jsut weird lol :p

Just had a series of 4 consecutive bluescreens.
1x SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION.
2x PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
1x DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

im getting really sad about this now :/ really thought it was getting better :(

You can still use MSN. Afterall, it's just a protocol. What I'm saying is change the client.

Please go here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Download the latest iso image, like this one: http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.iso.zip

Extract zip, burn onto blank CD and boot from the cd. I think one of your memory sticks is just bad, let me know how that goes.

At this point you have to start troubleshooting.

Remove the GTX 680 from your system and connect your monitor to the onboard HDMI video connection (if possible).

Remove one stick of RAM (make sure the remaining stick is in DIMM slot 1).

Then stress the PC and see if you continue to get blue screens.

Not to sound completely blank. but. any good burning software you could point me to ? ><.. got nothing or.. dunno if i do but. havent installed anything

Windows 7 has built in CD burning, just double click the iso file.

The TV will work. Tzantza do you have anyone close by that can help you with this problem? You need some help and I know that all this information coming at you from this forum might be really confusing.

I just made the memtest thingie. the boot cd. so. what now. i leave it in and go bios and then. how do i boot from it. and so on ?. allso what am i looking for?.

about the trubleshooting. do i remove my GPU and a stick of ram at the same time. or do i do it with one of them first ?.

sadly no. i dont have anyone who can help me with this nearby :/

Put the CD you made in your CD-ROM drive, reboot, when you see the ASUS logo hit the F8 key. You'll get a menu with a list of devices to boot from. Pick your CD-ROM from the list.

Run memtest86+ first with all hardware installed. If it fails, remove one of the sticks of ram and run it again until all tests pass with ZERO errors. If it fails again after the second try, well swap the sticks and try again.

I can't say I've ever had those specific BSODs due to a faulty GPU, so until proven otherwise I'm pointing the finger at your RAM (or worse case scenario, bad DIMM slot :()

This is the information on the ASUS website for BIOS version 3203

1.Improve system stability.
2.Improve memory compatibility.
3.Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
* Enable support for Intel Next Gen 22nm Processor E1 stepping MP version CPU.

Sounds like a BIOS update might be what you need to resolve your issues. Go to page 3-41 of your motherboard manual and read the details on how to update your BIOS. Go HERE to download the updated BIOS file.

Wow really, improve system stability and memory compatibility? I'm glad I tend to stick to EVGA for my motherboards...

No motherboard is perfectly stable or supports every arcane configuration of RAM sticks.

C'mon, let's not have senseless fanboi-ism.

Allright. ran the memtest. full pass no errors... so now what >< had kinda hoped it was the ram so id be done testing lol

ive got that BIOS one downloaded and ready . but i still dunno howto do it :/

What StryderxX said to do it correct. Then follow the on screen instructions.

I've allready done the Memtest thingie with the boot CD. full pass with no errors or hickups.

so.. now what? BIOS update? how do i go about doing that ? i have the Bios downloaded. but i have no idea howto do it :/

You either create a bootable cd with the bios files, or a bootable usb stick. I don't have an Asus board so I'm not sure if you can flash from within windows or only within a DOS environment.

Look in the asus forums for your motherboard and or in your manual for instructions.

well it has this thingie: Bupdater Utility V1.26 for flash BIOS under DOS.

But i have no idea howto operate it. :(

Ran Memtest again. still comes up clean.

had a problem waking it up from B3 sleep or something like that. unable to find any information on that tho.

getting the feeling my SSD is the culprit. :/

Still havent updated my BIOS. still not certain howto do it. so not really sure what to do or how to go about it. I know you've all said DL the ROM file. slap it on a flash drive and so on. But i still have no idea what to do. and it frightens me alittle that i might end up toasting my Bios trying to do this.

Found the Asus Update tool. For whatever reason. it wont install. the Install wizard fails over and over. so cant use that :(

Buy a 7200 rpm SATA hard drive, load Window 7 plus all necessary drivers and see if the system is stable.
