So, im finally making the jump into a real honest to goodness console. (i have a psp but thats a handheld ;P different)

I plan on getting it on thursday, the premium system. This will be my first console ever. I will be hooking it up to my dell 2407fpw with my 7.1 surround sound (do many games even support that?)

My first game that i get is going to be Gears of War, but i want another game or two. What do you guys recommend? I'm thinking maybe dead rising but im not really sure. Something with alot of replayability would be nice, and good multiplayer on split screen.

another thing, do you guys know of any brick and mortar stores that sell like a bundle with maybe two controllers a game and a premium system? As long as the game is good that would be pretty awesome.

Dead Rising is a great single player game. Definitely pick it up. I also really liked Tomb Raider.

GRAW is awesome. Enchanted Arms was pretty good (before games like FFXII and Zelda came out though). There are a lot of good games for it, so I love my 360.

I would definitely recommend signing up for Gamefly or something and start renting. It'll allow you to experience a lot more of the titles it has to offer.
 
Buy your console from a reputable store that also offers a good extended warranty. 360's are burning up left and right so make sure you protect yourself. For $50 for two years, you cant go wrong. Make sure you policy lets you just walk in with the broken one and walk out with the new one. Some warranties say that they send it in for repair and that's not what you want.
 
You may get some opposition to this recommendation - but it will only be from people who haven't played it.

Kameo is the best title I've played on Xbox360. It's fantastic. I've been a gamer since around 1990, both PC and consoles, and Kameo has to be in my top 10 games...Fight Night Round 3 is also fun, but Kameo is more memorable. Both are great games when you have friends over for splitscreen fighting/co-op.

and if you buy from outpost or overstock can't remember which one....you can get a 12% off coupon so the console will only cost you $350 or so.
 
if you wait a week, longer, you can get rainbow six: vegas. if you cant wait, definitely dead rising and GRAW. i also got hooked on oblivion.
 
Rent them, either BlockBuster or Gamelfy FTW!

good luck, and take the other guys advice about Warranty. its a bummer waiting for ur console to ship back repaired.
 
well, I know that best buy here is having a deal where you can get Gears of War and Call of Duty 3 for $100 for one day only

MUA is fantastic in multiplayer...bringing back some of the fun that games like streets of rage and teenage mutant ninja turtles had in the arcades.

condemned was a fantastic thriller. scared me to death on quite a few occasions.

table tennis is just a pure fun game that translates VERY well to xbl.

MUA is a blast.
Dead Rising is the only recent single-player game that seriously impressed me. You will want this.

I hear Kameo is good but I lack first-hand experience with it.
 
Be warned that Dead Rising is fucking hard as hell and the save system sucks my ass.

Yep, do Circuit City's warranty. I skipped it like a moron, and now I've been dealing with MS's half-assed "Contractor" they hired to provide "service" for Xbox 360's for 3 *months*. It's patently absurd.

Wow, haven't heard anyone mention Streets of Rage in a while. I will have to check out MUA.

To not completely hijack the thread, We are looking at getting a 360 soon as well, To play on My early Xmas, Bday, Xmas next year, Bday next year , etc.. 61" Samsung DLP TV
Gears of war is a must have and I Will be following this thread with great interest.
I HAVE to get a Hockey game (So Sue me, I play hockey, It's required)
NHL07 or 2k7?
 
Other than GoW, it will depend on what your tastes are. I would also highly recommend Ridge Racer 6 as it's $20, but i'm just a fan of that game.

I would also recommend

1. The Godfather X360(this game is really fun)
2. Saints Row
3. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
4. Oblivion(a must for any RPG player)
5. Dead Rising, although the difficulty level of this game is just unfair.
 
another thumbs up for kameo, very underrated game, and given that it's 29 new now, it's hard to beat.
