General purpose internal drives

I got a habit of grabbing those cheap 2 Tb external laptop drives.

I want to consolidate into my desktop as local storage.

I am close to Microcenter (preferred) and have Amazon prime.

I'm looking at these:

I am not worried about RAID at the moment.

Budget isn't an issue, but I'd like to keep costs down.

I photograph sports. I have some mystery amount of files to consolidate. Probably in the 8 TB range, but I'd like some room at 12 - 16 TB.

Desktop is some pre-built with sufficient hardware for Lightroom/PS, just not enough storage to really move in there.

Price looks really good. I think people have complained about warranty process before though with Toshiba.

This is pretty much why I refuse to give Toshi(t)ba any money.
Their customer service and warranty is the most broken, crooked, customer-hostile I've *ever* experienced.

Don't get me wrong. When Toshiba's stuff works, it works well.
But if you have any problems, it's easier to get support out of Asus or Comcast than it is to get Toshiba to step up and honor their warranties.

I have 5 Toshiba hard drives and had 1 fail. It was within the warranty time and my experience with the RMA process was it worked without any undue hassles on my part. For every person that has a bad experience with the RMA process I guess there is a person like myself that thinks the process worked efficiently and in a reasonable time period. I still own all my Toshiba drives and they are working flawlessly.

Always have a back-up plan. For the price of these drives I like the deal.

I got one of their external ones, The drives inside are the same at least in this particular case. I have never got a seagate one which was similar to the desktop drive though. These Toshiba's are fast, the fastest drives I seen yet. Easily beating out the seagate 2TB drives which was the fastest drive I have used before. I love the seagate 2TB desktop 2 platter drives, they are fast, cool and quiet, the rest of the seagate drives are marginal to say the least. The Toshiba beat the seagates by a 15-20% margin in speed. of course it runs hotter and uses a little extra power as it is a 5 platter design using 1TB platters like the seagate so I am not sure how the toshiba is faster as they both run at 7200rpm. But the Toshiba runs cooler and uses less power than the 3TB seagate. Since seagate only have 7200 rpm drives for 3TB and under you have to buy Toshiba or HGST to get 7200RPM drives. Barring the latency for reading a bunch of small files, I can interchangeably use them as the boot drive instead of the SSD without noticing much difference. For regular usage, the system feels just as fast as using it with an SSD. Then again when I installed an SSD going from the seagate 2TB drive I barely noticed any difference. The one problem seems to be the noise. You cant hear the seagate, but you do know the toshiba is spinning. HDtune graph looks pretty stable as well so the platters are high quality.
