Voted "F" for "Fucking retarded to have a poll like this less than 1 day before the card is released."

Everybody's curious. But he's asking for something that nobody can provide. How are we to give our opinions if we have nothing on which to base them?

I'll try to give my opinion on the specific things we do know -

1. Memory speed - nothing to do with Nvidia, that's just what's available on the market right now at a reasonable cost.
2. Number of pipes - 8 extra pipes is quite good for a refresh part given process and cost constraints.
3. Clock - a bit lower than I personally expected but with the rumours of high-overclockability and retail parts such as the 470Mhz GTX from ASUS this may be a tactical move by Nvidia to ensure they have some headroom with which to address the R520.
4. 3dmark05 score - not an accurate indication of G70 game performance as has been strongly hinted by several reputable people under NDA.

All those together, without any true game benchmarks or any knowledge of architectural changes are not nearly enough for me to answer the thread question.

Curious about what exactly? Curiosity is great. But hes not asking for info. He asking for opinions and grading a product we know nothing about, which will most likely erupt into a flame war. This is not against the rules, but neither is it against the rules for us to mock him for it.

so  yourself!

:D

He is just curious about it guys..my hell. He wants to know what we think about the card. He knows the info is leaked, but still curous what we think. I dont really see the need to "mock" him over that.

I think most of us feel it is a let down from what we thought it would be..if you go off leaked info.

im curious about expectation b4 and expecations after the launch.

humor me.
vote.

a lot of times the first impression sets the tone for a thread and the subject line is where this is derived from

a suggestion subject title that would have carried out your goals better without confusion could have been:

"NVIDIA's Next Gen: Thoughts before it gets released?"

and then in the body explain how you are curious about peoples expectations before it is released and that you want to compare it with results after it is announced

that's how i would have set it up anyways

F that, i think we should wait for LEGITIMATE benchmarks and reviews before grading a card.

This poll is bullshit and flaimbait as far as im concerned. to grade a product that has not been released, with only a bogus 3dmark score that, rumors and speculation is retarded.

Shit, we might as well as grade the r520 for all we know, and hell lets go beyond that.

New poll suggestion:

how does the G90 and the r720 fare?

I hear they're both going to have 4 gigs of GDDR7 clocked at 5GHZ the GPU's are going to be clocked somewhere in teh neighborhood of 20-30 Ghz and each will have 1024 pixel pipes, and 720 vertex shaders. I hear both are going to use quantum diamond chips that operate in all 32 quantum states for unprecedented throughput.

and in other news, George bush went hunting and caught sasquatch.

worthless thread

OFF TOPIC :

While graphics is probably the best application for a quantum computer in a PC (or physics), I feel that it still wouldn't be that good a use. Quantum Computers strength is that they are theoretically infinitely parallelable in that they can make infinite calculations at the same time. However it is not really known how fast they would be. While they could process each frame in the same move since it could perform all the pixel calculations and whatnot at the same time (theoretically) it would still have to wait for each frame before starting a new one. And by the time a quantum computer is actually invented (if ever) GPUs will be fast enough that I surmise it will be slower actually to use quantum mechanics in graphics. Really one of the only practical uses for a quantum computer would be code breaking, as it would be able to factor infinitely large prime numbers very quickly (once again all theoretically)

Agree that it should be called 6950 not 7800.

Agree that 3dmark is shiest.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way let me say this. I do use 3dmark as a "card specific" benchmark (i.e. did my new overclock get me a higher number) and not for a comparison between an ATI or Nvidia of the same generation because that is useless. What I have noticed as I've upgraded over the years and used 3dm01 and 3dm03 and now 3dm05 is that REAL "generational" upgrades get you a doubling of these benchmarks.
I can remember 5000 being a good score with 3dm01 and then the "next generation" came out and then 10-11000 was good 3dm01 score and funny how it seemed that these cards would score aprox 5000 on 3dm03 when it came out. Now we have current generation that are getting 10000 3dm03 and 5000 3dm05. Using this logic (remember just my experience, your s may vary) I wouldn't spend another $400 (what my 6800 OC cost me) until I see cards getting "STOCK" 10000 in 3dm05.

Long story short-doubling current 3dm05 scores="next generation. At least for us single card people. You SLI guys been seeing 10000 for awhile now.

So if a card doubles game performance but doesn't hit 10,000 3dmarks it's not next gen?

Not in my HUMBLE opinion. At least not at the top tiers. Does an x700xt double over a 9600xt. Don't think so but does an x850xt pe double over a 9800. Just about. Same thing with Nvidia.

Too many FX too make an example with Nvidia. :)

it would be cool if teachers graded students on work they didnot actually review.

YOU FAIL JOHHNY!!
Why Mr. Teacher?
Because I speculate that your classwork would SUCK, without ever looking at it.
But teacher, ill be done real soon, then you can look at it, its not that bad, honest.
Get out of my class, failure!

If you'd like to see that in action, go to Harvard... They'll give you an A just because you got in ;)

Nvidia is probably trying to shed the negative imagery that goes with the FX series by not naming the card the 6950.

IMO, they kind of ruin that attempt by using "GFX" as a suffix in one of their cards.

Brent brings clarity to this otherwise useless thread.

How can you poll something that isn't out?

easily.

all im asking is your initial reaction to what limited, incomplete rumored info you have.

thats it.

pretty simple.

My initial reaction is that the rumoured info is too incomplete and limited :p

I voted F for FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC

G90 RULES W00t.

LETS START A POLL
How does the G90 fare?

A ( I like nvidia )
or
E ( I like ATi )

Ill make a 3dmark 05 benchmark in MS Paint and then we can argue over it! Maybe the inquirer will make an article about it.

I like it, its a very nice poll showing who's in love with which company.

maybe, unfortunately the singal to noise ratio is horrible.
start a poll that says :

ATI fanbo1
Nvidia fanbo1
neither

but that would not be as fun.

I was just expecting that this card would be faster then a sli 6800u setup. or mabye about equal. Make a reason for someone to pick it up if they already dropped a ton on a sli setup. I dont really consider it next gen. I agree mabye call it 69999.9 If in the past a lot of times, when they finially did do a major change, it was a large upgrade. like the 6800s/x800s almost doubling say the 9800 pros in dx9 stuff.

it beats the 6800 GT SLI which to me is impressive.
