Geek Squad = Peek Squad?

I think it is stupid that she is suing Best Buy, she should be suing the guy who did this, it isn't Geek Squad's fault he did it. Why can't people put blame in the right places these days?

Because blame in the correct places doesn't = $$$$$

Well the nice thing is any computer forensic analist worth a damn will check the tags on the video, to make sure it matches the make/model of the phone, and the date in question.

It would be funny if the video started with her placing the camera, then slipping into the shower. Busted!

He probably could have just copied her nudez from her My Documents. She looks like the type to take those....

el oh el tits.

She's probably a webcam girl. Likely has Myspace too. I wouldn't be surprised if she already has videos of her showering. ;)

The two sisters combined sound like they have the IQ of a brick..

Since when do cell phones have a blinking red light when they record video? And how the hell did a phone "behind the sink" take video of her through her shower curtain. Also, she never mentioned that she picked up the phone to see the video feed on the screen.

Also, how the hell would the girl, who is obviously not familiar at all with technology, know the phone even had a memory card, know the phone was recording to the memory card, and know how to locate the memory card, take it out. All phones will record to the phone memory by default, not the memory card, so this is not just some thing anyone would assume would happen. Why not just keep the phone and call the cops?

I don't know if the guy did it or not, but that girl sounded like she was making stuff up and the smiling while telling stories didn't make it any more believable.

My phone's light blinks (Treo 700p) whether its camera is working or not. I'd guess this phone probably did, and they assumed (since camcorder recording lights often blink while in progress or remain on) that the light was linked to the video functions of the phone. Assuming their claims are true, I doubt they really thought of that part until after she found out she was recorded, but at that point, she figured that the blinking light must have been an indicator that she was.

Who knows on the rest...but I'm guessing that between the people involved and the media, several bits about the techie stuff were made a little more spicy because they thought it would sell papers/ad space/etc.

Its a 100% money grab suit...if they win, maybe she can use some of the money to have that piece of turd removed from above her lip....:)

This mother/daughter combo reminds me of the movie Heartbreakers, only Jennifer Love Hewitt is way hotter. :D

Where do you guys see the Mom/daughter? Those are sisters in the video?

A Geek Squad employee was arrested for spying on a customer while she was in the shower after planting a recording device (cell phone) in her bathroom. As you can imagine, a lawsuit has been filed.

A woman and her mother Wednesday sued Best Buy Stores after a technician from a computer company allegedly recommended by an employee of the electronics firm videotaped the woman taking a shower.

ROFL..

from her laywer's wiki page:

She has also represented cases against the Boy Scouts of America for not allowing girls, something she referred to as gender apartheid

I hope she sued the Girl Scouts for not accepting boys. What a female equiv. of a tool.

I guess it's my fault, but I was just asking if you've seen the picture of the Mother and Daughter. The video showed the sisters (not sure if the prosecutor is the mother or daughter). :)

Heh, I'm at work. The video would probably play though. I'm assuming the article is correct. Just alluding to the mother/daughter con artist combo. Poor Geek Squad employee. :D

Never, EVER, have that many simple sentences in a row. :)

Well, the point is to sue the employer so they will practice better hiring techniques. If there is something on the tech, such as a felony for sexual assault or such, then Best Buy would be liable for hiring him and letting him go into people's houses. It probably is not like that since big corporations do what they can to keep from being sued, but maybe they did know and neglected it. Even if theres nothing on his record, maybe he has a record with Best Buy for doing/saying things.

When something like this happens, if the person is on company time, you sue the person and the company. If the company did nothing wrong, they will get off without having to pay anything (unless they settle right away). It should be as simple as getting all of the documents that say Best Buy took all the steps possible. Then the rest will be on the tech.

1) Best Buy is the company pushing the Geek Squad service.
2) Best Buy owns Geek Squad.

As for not being Geek Squad's fault... They hired and dispatched an employee into someone's home. They are compeltely responsible for his actions while he is there. That's like claiming that the govenrment shouldn't be responsible for a wrongful death involving the police.

Geek Squad and Best Buy actively and purposely acted to get this person into the position that he could do this, making them liable.

Attractive, but not hot enough to risk my career.

And who takes a shower with a stranger in the house? Hell, I don't even take my shoes off when someone is in my pad.

BTW, great headline, Steve-o.

ROFLMAO if the Verizon guy made a copy of the memory card before he gave it to her to watch. May end up on the Internet after all...

Anyone else notice that the aspect ration of photo of the guy on the CBS2 website is messed up? They probably did it to make him look even more creepy.

She does look desperate... I'm filming her in my head right now. :D

LOL,I worked for the Geek Squad part time a while back, and although we had a few nuts,I cannot imagine someone being this stupid. Not to mention there are tiny camera kits out there that are not overly pricy and are perfect such activities :D

This is a money grab. Can they prove the chip came from his phone? Can they prove that he was the one that did the filming? Who's to say they didn't do the filming and claim it was him and come up with this story and go straight to all national media outlets with it? Watching the whole "interview" thing it just feels totally staged.

Just because a shotgun approach was taken with the defendants named, does not automatically mean the family fabricated the story to make money. Or do you think that aggressive lawyers representing people with legit complaints never persuade the client to go for the jugular? When you feel hurt and angry, "let's sue everybody we can pin the blame on" sounds like the right thing to do.

Umm, have you heard of the Duke Lacrosse rape case.

And I wouldnt call her hot. Nailable without regret.

Perfect wording!
The whole situation is a bit odd.. For one I don't know any woman who would jump in the shower when a stranger is in her house, two she must have gave him advanced notice that she was going to the shower, other wise how would he have known to put the cell phone in there. and how much space did he have on that memory card to take the video? Did he use the bathroom and as soon as he left she ran in after him and started to undress? I'd love to hear the fine details of this case.. as well as see the footage

Interesting you said that, because the things you said I had the same questions in my head -- even the picture of the guy just looks weird on the website.

That's exactly what i was thinking. Yes, I was wondering about the aspect ratio of the photo.

Hearing all this made me more comfortable living in the canucks side of the border... Stupid lawsuits

Have any of you seen those "Leaked Geek Squad" manuals floating around out there, somewhere? :)

Considering the guy that's been accused of this crime was "spying" on someone, get this - one of the documents is named "CIA_Handbook" which I'm guessing based on the content means "Computer Inspection Activity" or something along those lines, and another is called "da_handbook" - yep, you gessed it, "da" stands for Double Agent.

The pages are headered by the text "EYES ONLY COMMUNIQUE" at the top and then the words "BURN OR EAT THIS DOCUMENT AFTER READING" at the bottom.

The VoIP training guide flat out has a picture of two Geeks on the first page with big black letters that say:

"Recruits Wanted For World Domination! Faint Hearted Need Not Apply"

I mean, I know some companies go all out when they do the "let's adopt some silly concept that'll be fun and make people work harder... or that's the general principle." But I keep looking at this entire fiasco right now and the "peek" or spy aspects of it and then I look at those manuals which almost subversively train someone to think "I'm part of a secret organization with top secret manuals and stuff, it even says so on the documentation I was given when I was hired."

I just can't stop laughing about it, truth be told... :D

My best buddy worked at that Best Buy in City of Industry. Never met the guy though. Although it's not Best Buy's fault, except for the fact that they hired a creep... I'd still like to see the book thrown at them. They've screwed my family and friends enough to start shopping at Circuit City.

So you dropped one store that screwed you to go shop at another who is screwing 1500 people out of their jobs? LOL!

Eeasy for her to take the phone and stick it there.... make a quick buck.

However, I doubt that is the case. I don't know why he would use a cellphone of all things as they are traceable to somones account.

True. Prob not the case but you never know. Is anyone really susprised about this shit though? I mean you know shit like this happens all the time. This guy just got caught and works for a company that the people can get some good cash out of.

Seriously, that chick is not worth getting pwnd for.

And that asian guy is really ugly.

Well, couldn't she make more money suing geek squad than that guy? I mean she could probably flip it like, "You hired him,". Or some random crap.
