Gateway FPD2485W - 24" HD LCD

does anyone know of an adapter that will let you use your existing pc speakers with say rca inputs?

I have some nice klipsch speakers and I was wondering if there was a way to get it to work with ps3? thanks

Does this monitor have a HDCP port or just HDCP through the DVI OR VGA port's?
HDCP is not an input, it's a type of copy protection. It can be found only on HDMI or DVI connections. This monitor has one DVI with HDCP and no HMDI. You can't use HDCP over VGA.

I have a Nov model, the only issue I notice is the screen is hot. It does not bother me, but I would like to know are the Dec screens "hot" too? Should I be worried?

I ran this monitor with the xfx 8800 , XP, and The eztune (1.0 or 1.1) that came with the monitor. NO PROBLEMS.

I now install vista, install the 100.59 Nvidia driver, then eztune 1.2 (does not work with vista). Then installed 1.4. Works with Vista bit all monitor adjustments in ez tune are dimmed out. EZtune 1.4 does not "see" the monitor. The monitor is installed as plyg and play and I am using 1900x1200 res...no problem except EzTune does not see ot. It says "no supported Gateway monitor found."

Just got my December model from Circuit City online. Looks fantastic with no stuck/dead pixels that I've found yet and a fairly even backlight, but I could only test the other crap people talk about through VGA because my new desktop parts aren't here yet and I'm dependent on my monitor out from my laptop. No buzzing. Most of the presets for the colors look craptastic, but a little tweaking went a long way. Part of the problem could be the VGA out.

My Dec. screen was warm. I couldn't fry an egg on it or anything, but it was definitely noticeable when I got near the screen.

Try running the Display Diagnostic Utility (found in the EzTune Program Group) and choose the option to Clean Registry. Then ReEnumerate. Reboot then see if it finds the monitor.

i'm having the same exact problem. went from 1.3 which was working just fine to 1.4. only tabs that can be highlighted is options and help.

when i click on version, it says DDC/CI connection is not possible.

i've also tried using the diagnostics tool and that doesn't work.

oh, and i also using windows vista.

The bleeding on all four corners isn't visible during daylight or bright office lights, but if your room is even slightly dark or you're trying to watch a movie with the lights off, the bleed will be unbearable, and so will the brightness.

There is the first LCD monitor I've ever seen where the "brightness" doesn't adjust the actual brightness of the backlight tubes. So any black color on screen will STILL appear as a nasty gray because the backlight is still pumping out at 100%

Try displaying a totally white page in a darkened room and your whole room will be lit as if a spotlight were shining on you! It's absurd!

Gateway obviously designed this monitor for office use only, where nobody would ever see the crappy bleeding because of ambient light.

Last night I put my Gateway next to my (inexpensive) 32" TV in my living room and took some pics from PS2 and Wii games on both screens. They are hooked up via Composite, and the consoles are plugged into the 32" TV with another Composite Out from the TV into the Gateway. No progressive on any of it. All 480i Full Frame (1:1 on the Gateway, which automatically scales the video so there were black bars on the sides of the screen).

First I hooked God of War up to the Gateway and it looked HORRIBLE. After I adjust for a little bit, it looked better.. Not great, but quite a bit better.

There was a very slight input lag on the Gateway. I'm sure this isn't helped by the way it was all hooked up, but as far as I could tell, the lag didn't have a very negative affect on my gaming, but when looking at both screens, it is definitely there.

I also hooked up the Wii straight into the Gateway and it still felt like there was a little lag, maybe not quite as much as when it was going through the TV.

I have also learned that in addition to my old CRT computer monitor looking like crap, my 32" TV also looks like crap.

Pics (Gateway is the bottom left screen):
Shadow of the Colossus map. The rest of the game was pretty bland so I didn't spend too much time in it.
Okami - Yay! Colors!
Okami - Input lag :(
Okami
God of War - Looked much worse before adjusting.
God of War - Input Lag :(
Zelda - Lots of contrast.. needs more adjustment I think.
Trauma Center

Also keep in mind that the games do look better in person than in those pictures, especially the Wii games. Like someone was saying earlier in this thread, the blacks do get crushed (detail is lost). it was very apparent in Zelda when that calibration screen comes up. The background pattern lost a lot of the detail.

I'm probably going to experiment with settings more today with just the Gateway, or with a better way to hook it all up.. If I can think of one.

Thats a bad comparison, because composite sucks on everything.

You shouldn't expect anything more then crap when you're running a 480i signal on a high definition set.

Office use my ass. This monitor excels at Gaming and VIdeo and mine has no backlight bleed. I play in my room which is almost always dark too btw.

I tried your advice, still nothing. I think it has something to do with Eztune and the 8800GTS card or with the 100.59 vista driver. Its corporate america messing with us again.

This 24" widescreen is GREAT. honestly. I'm extremely happy with my purchase!!!

Day 5 ---

--No buzzing
--No backlight bleeding

Why is it that just about everybody seems to be complaining of backlight bleeding except me?

Now I admit that I am not an expert on detecting backlight bleeding on LCD monitors, as this is my first LCD .... but I don't see it. I am not quite sure exactly what it will look like, but as a Supreme Court justice once said about pornography - I'll know it when I see it.

I am starting to get used to how to deal with the vast amounts of real-estate this monitor opens up. For example, in Word, I can enlarge the document to 125%, which seems to be match up with a smaller monitor at 100%

I have been experimenting with the different theme presets, such as "User", "Web", "Movie", "Picture”, but have really not made a judgment on which one I would prefer. Does anybody have any preferences on these settings?

Actually I have to retract my statement that I'm not impressed by PS3 720p performance on this monitor. I sat back a couple feet and it looked great. I guess I was sitting too close and noticed some things I shouldn't have if I had just sit back at the proper distance. I'm just sort of vexed that it doesn't keep the aspect ratio and I can tell there's some slight stretching even though its not very noticable. Unfortunately I have nothing else to test to see if it would keep the 720p aspect ratio. Right now I'm assuming its the PS3's scaling problems and hope that it'll get fixed in that huge March update.

Anyway all the other problems that everyone else in this thread have reported on, I am not experiencing. No ghosting, no banding, buzzing noise that's only audible when I put my ear right up against it, very small blacklight bleeding and it runs fairly cool heat wise. I'm really loving the menu system (as much as anyone can get excited about a menu system) and the PIP. Truthfully I was looking at the BenQ 241W very closely because of the HDMI input, the way it ran PIP was a deal breaker. It doesn't hurt that I got this monitor for about $150 cheaper than if I had gotten the 241W. I would recommend this monitor to anyone.

Hey guys, I recently got this monitor and hooked it up to my 360 using component cables. at first, i got the same results as everyone else (no 1080p on one input, green tint on the other), but it worked just fine at 720p.

Now, when im using my 360, it won't let me adjust the res higher than 480. I can select 720, and it displays it properly when it asks me to confirm the change, but as soon as I hit accept the resolution changes back down to 480. I've tried using both inputs with the same results.

I know this might be more of a 360 question, but im thinking it may be a fpd2485w phenomenon. I haven't had an opportunity to hook the 360 up to a hd tv to test if I can use a higher res on a different monitor, but I will try to get that done soon. Any suggestions?

(video scaling is set to 1:1 btw)

Odd, must have been a problem with that one. I the display that I returned with minimal backlight bleed, it actually got better over a 2 week period.

Gateway isn't too quick to ship out a replacement. I contacted them on 1/27, and they agreed to cross-ship a replacement. When I contacted them yesterday to inquire as to the status, I was told to wait another five days.

The backlight bleed is much worse now, but when the display is warmed up (~30 minutes or so) it isn't noticeable at all.

My backlight is fantastic. A little noticeable in the corners IF I'm looking for it, I've got the screen brightened to look for it, and it's dark in the room.

I will second the sentiment that this thing is too bright for dark room use. Or, at least, it appears that way having only tweaked the OSD and not installed Gateway's software yet (the computer I'll have this attached to isn't available yet). Other than that it's f'ing gorgeous.

I just bought a Gateway FPD2485W 24'' LCD and I hooked it up to my Macbook Pro over DVI... my god, it looks hideous. I messed around with it for a half hour and something happened, and bam, it looked good. I unplugged it to mount it, which reset everything (yeah, what?)

Anybody have suggestions? Also, is it normal that when you turn it on the screen is all green and looks like the matrix, but with static and banding?

Where did you happen to get the 10% coupon?

i went on Ebay and bought a 10% coupon for $1.50

you can use mine. I'm not sure if it will work, but try it. You HAVE TO BUY the unit online and pick it up at the store. You will pay $624 (online price) - 10% OFF and then tax.

Doesn't sound like anything I've seen on mine. When it turns on, it should display a white Gateway logo on black background for a couples seconds then switch to whichever input you're using. No wierd graphicy video glitches or anything. Maybe you have a bad unit? I would also check your video settings making sure it's outputting the correct resolution and color depth.

As for backlight bleeding, I notice it on mine once in a while, but it really hasn't bothered me. I haven't always noticed it from a cold start, and sometimes I've noticed it after it's been on for a while and the screen is all dark. Either way, it hasn't bothered me enough to warrant returning it yet.

Mine will be here tomorrow, if it does as good as my 2185 I will be in hog heaven....of course now my GTS will have some additional load placed on it running at 1920x1200 :D

Anyone getting one from Circuit City YMMV but you can try this bad boy, I just used it this weekend on a car stereo for my wife.

Well I certainly will be looking for it in the next few weeks. I bought the 2 year warranty from CompUSA so I can take it back there if I start to have problems.

How exactly does it first appear? Is it just a noticeable lightness in a certain corner of the screen?

Can you play Blu-Ray DVD's and HD-DVD's on this 24"Gateway at the full High-end of the Blu-RAY HD-DVD Spec. of 1080P Rez. ?
If yes, has anyone done it yet in real world use to make shure it work's?

Zoulas,

There is a known issue (confirmed as of this morning) on the 8800 graphics cards and NVIDIA dispaly drivers in regards to EzTune. Basically you will get a No DDC/CI issue meaning the program will lock you out of the adjustment tabs as if it was not a Gateway monitor. This occus because something in the NVIDIA drivers is not allowing the communications to pass though the drivers.

The 8800 cards are fairly new and we are investigating this issue with NVIDIA engineers. We hope to have something soon but at this time are still in the early stages of the investigation.

Do me a favor and submit a support request from EzTune so we can track this better. The more reports the better, plus we can let you know when we (or NVIDIA) has a fix for this issue. In the descripton just put it to my attention so I know who you are on the forums.

We've (PDI Support) recently ordered some new systems for Vista support and have noticed that many hardware manufacturer's are a bit slow at the moment. I suspect this is more due to people upgrading to Vista systems than anything else.

Just wanted to chime in that this isn't just a Gateway issue. I think it's probably market wide.

Just be advised at 1900 resolution, the refresh rate is only 60 mhz.

If you are senstiive to refresh rates, this is not the monitor for you.

It looked very good and the pic was amazing, but after 5 minutes of use, I had eye pain and a migraine.

A 75 refresh rate is what it needs, but is not capale of.

If you are not sensitive to it, this monitor would be a great buy.

Oh, ebay has the coupon for 10% off and it works. cost $2

Whaa?

All LCD monitors use a refresh rate of 60, you must have really sensitive eyes then because this display is no different than any other LCD I use at work (4) or anywhere else for that matter.
