Gaming Snacks

Buncha diabetus in this thread.

It depends how often people eat like this. Personally it´s once a year that we have a LAN. There is no harm in that, even several times a year won´t push your body into non insulin dependent diabetes territory.

What´s important is the way people eat on an a daily basis. Most important part of avoiding diabetes is staying at a healthy BMI and keep exercising regularly to combat the "organ fat" (also it helps a lot not to have a genetic disposition). Massive amounts of lipid pockets around these cause a permanent inflammatory state which modern health science is finding to be an increasing key culprit in pancreatic beta cell dysfunction. Insulin spikes, produced by carbohydrates, are bad as well. But having sweets sometimes is perfectly fine, as long as people eat healthy on a daily basis.

That said, this list is intriguing. I don´t think I "could do" the chips administration by cup, just from the way it makes me look, but maybe I could sink to a new low in the attempt to stay #1 :D

I'm married to a insulin dependent diabetic and let me tell you, its a brutal, life long struggle with it. It was nothing she did that contributed to the disease (hereditary). I mostly eat the foods she does because her diet has to be strict and i hate to say this but without her and the disease, i would most likely be obese and god only knows what else because i love all that junk food (who doesn't?). Pizza is one of the worst for carbohydrates and makes a diabetics sugar spike really high (found that out by spending a night in a hospital room). I would hate to see what pizza and a couple red bulls would do, even if she did compensate it with more insulin it would still spike really high.

Some of my snacks:
Celery with a little bit of peanut butter inside or with ranch dip
Kiwifruit
Apple slices
Iced green tea
Green peppers with ranch dip
Cantaloupe
Homemade venison jerky

Cherry Bawls/Original Bawls (or Cherry Coke). And then many pizza rolls. That was my gamer food for my Skyrim all nighters. + occasional 7/11 runs.

Ahh, I forgot about Bawls! Good stuff. They also make a "G33K B33R" root beer variant that is actually really tasty.

Anything not greasy. People getting crumbs and grease on my keyboard, they can GTFO. It's a pet hate I will never get rid of.

It makes me so happy to see so many Dr. Pepper fans here. I barely know anybody that shares my passion lololol.

My gamer food is:

Liquids:
Dr. Pepper (often mixed with rye, Seagrams VO or Forty Creek)
Mountain Dew (straight)

Solids:
Ephedrine + Caffiene pills (we call them stim packs, one of these and you're good for 6 hours)
"Gamer" Chili - Cheap chili, eat it with a spoon, your hands stay clean and you have a free hand to still derp around in game.

Any other food is eaten on breaks. The passion of the Five Guys bacon cheeseburger is too dramatic to eat while gaming, plus the grease factor on keyboard is echhh.

I love baby carrots with ranch dip. If you are logged on to vent or teamspeak, and someone is making you mad, a good open mic and a carrot crunch can easily ward them off.

Can't really say much that hasn't been said, but definitely a good meal before you start. My friends usually get burritos from Chipotle... mmm. Burritos of any kind are king imo.

Snacks, get pizza rolls, for sure. take 2 min to make in the microwave, best thing ever.

Never. Ever. Ever. Get a huge bag of skittles. They only will ever make you sick.

haha I like how so many are trying to show off how much they know about Diabetes like they are dieticians or doctors

I don't think I've ever had this problem before. The idea of 'stocking up' on snacks to have a gaming marathon seems a little ridiculous to me. I usually just get up every 10-15 minutes anyway to stretch and walk around a little bit, maybe grab a quick meal or something. I can't imagine sitting down for hours with stacks of food and soda's infront of me. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

15min? That's less than a single round on BF3 or 1/4 a round of an RTS game. I work in an office so sitting on my ass 6 hours a day is something I do as a living.

I'd wager most of us here work in offices. Doesn't mean sitting in your chair staring at your computer for 6 hours straight is healthy. I get up and take a 5-minute break from my computer at least every couple hours at work, and encourage my coworkers to do the same. Gaming shouldn't be any different.

Well, 20. I play BF3 also, and that's about the span of a normal Hardcore/Rush match. Then I get up and start walking around. Go downstairs, grab a fruit or w/e, TV for 10 minutes while standing to stretch my legs. Text. Go to the basement and look at my new car for about another 10 minutes. It's a process!

But basically, I don't sit for a long period of time, mostly because yes, I work in an office environment and I stare at a screen (albeit a nice huge screen) for 9 hours a day. It's annoying, and the last thing I want to do on the weekend or after those 9 hours is stare at another, bigger screen. Regardless if it's for fun too, gaming is still staring at a screen. I think my ass is literally numb from my job and from gaming.

Edit: Forgot to mention too that I am only 23 years old, and the fact that I've ripped my ass cheeks apart from hardcore gaming in my teens probably doesn't help my situation now. I'm just growing out of the phase where I want to sit. I can't stand sitting anymore. Even if it's for something that I enjoy (albeit less) doing, like gaming.

I like to mix myself up a bowl of tuna & mayo with some Mrs. Dash and a few other super-secret spices then grab a bag of Ritz crackers to scoop the tuna up with while gaming. Quick, easy and relatively healthy. Plus, the cat loves me now because I give him all the leftover tuna water.

and guests will think you are the king of poon - with your house smelling of Tuna all the time :-p

I never said that I don't plan on getting up at all over the weekend lol. I said that I need to go to the store to get snacks. I'll move around, yes, but I don't want to make multiple trips to the grocery store in a week.

Nah I believe you. My comment was mostly towards the people that just lock themselves away from anyone else, like some of the people I unfortunately pal around with. Then they wonder why they can't hold a relationship or steady bank account, hah. You're good man, ignore my comment completely, wasn't towards you at all. :)

By the way, if I had to answer your question, I'd probably say some gummi snacks as well, not sure how big of a fan you are of those, but I like some peach rings or Haribo gummi bears every once in a while to break up all the chocolate and salty shit.

I actually already have a bag of gummi bears on hand that will be around for the weekend. Aside from large sour keys (they have to be hard/chewy like they're kinda stale) or the giant frogs which I can't seem to find anywhere anymore (everyone sells the smalls ones, they just aren't the same) they have to be my favourite candy.

The big green ones with the white coating on the bottom? Those are delicious, but I haven't seen them in a store since I was in Europe last time. I think you can order them online, though. I live near the Canadian border, and I've found the Duty Free shop is the best place locally to get Haribo gummies, but they don't stock the big frogs. Wish I could find another place that has as wide a selection.

Yeah, those are the ones. They sell the small versions everywhere, but they taste nothing the same and the texture is way off. The only place I've ever seen them for sale was at a tiny variety store down the street from my house, but it closed like 6 years ago. Haven't been able to find them since :(

OH. MY. GOD. I want the small-ass frogs so bad. They ONLY sell the big green ones at like kitchen type shops here, with gourmet candy. I want the small-frogs so bad, and my girlfriend's been bugging me to hell to find them!

Damn, son.

the Five Guys bacon cheeseburger.

Relevant to my interests.

EDIT: I love those gummy frogs. There's a store a few minutes away that sells them in bags. And I live in central maine. Go figure!

I'm going to start a snack company called Gnaw my Nuts.

The tiny frogs are for sale EVERYWHERE here. I can drive 3 minutes from my house and the store has a 4 foot tall bin of them, put what you want in a bag and go. I think we need to trade places BiH115...

Please. Cause I hate the big green ones haha.

The people I hang out with love gamer nights. Me and 6 buddies got together and had a hardcore Skyrim marathon on release weekend. 12 hours straight the first night and 10 hours the 2nd night. With a 15 minute break for a 7-11 run every 2-3 hours. I like hanging out with closet people because it's the same type of person I am. I love to be forever alone, relationships just don't do much for me. But give me a hardcore gamer chick who loves to do the same thing and I am all for it. Although we kind of lack those here in Miami, city of sunshine, beaches and clubs.

You'd be surprised how many club going girls actually love video games. ;)

I'm not much for hardcore 12 hour gaming sessions. I'd lose my mind. Don't get me wrong, I used to be all about gaming for 4+ hours at a time. I'm seeing that some people grow out of it earlier, some later. Some never do, and that's ok I suppose. I just can't bring myself to do the sessions anymore, and I'm barely 23! Maybe I'm just losing my youth.

If I'm munching at my desk it's usually a bowl of grapes or unsalted almonds.

This. Being socially active and playing videogames aren't mutually exclusive. I think most people enjoy clubbing on the odd occasion. I don't know many people who would do it every week... though I do know a few.

My friends and I will occasionally embark on what we call an "Epic Gaming Night", where we try to beat the SP or co-op campaign of a game overnight without sleep. What happens is that we have one guy who is ridiculously good that winds up playing start to finish, and the rest of us always get tired and sub in/out with intermittent naps. So far we've done Call of Duty World at War (was terribly sick, slept through most of it), Castle Crashers, and Gears of War 2 (freekin' painful).

Now that we're (mostly) done college, I don't know if we'll have time for that kind of stuff anymore.

I agree. I just started my first full-time after college job, and I find myself either not having time to game as much as I used to, or if I do have time, I'd rather spend it in my new car with people going out to eat, down to Boston, seeing shows, etc. The little time that I do get to myself, I'd rather spend not on a computer. Times changed me I suppose.

Jasmine tea imported from Taiwan
Pita bread, garlic hummus, and dark chocolate-covered almonds from Trader Joe's
Homemade oven-roasted peanuts
Chobani Greek Yogurt
Sushi platters from the grocery store. Not exactly high-quality but cheap, keeps you full, no mess, and wasabi invading your sinuses keeps you alert!

Damn man. What the hell. Chobani Yogurt? I just shivered. The rest sounds great though. I don't think you can really top this list.

The stim packs arent as bad as you think. One 100mg caffeine pill + 2 or 3 ephedrine pills (i think theyre 10mg each?). Its about the same amount of caffeine of a redbull, or half a monster drink, but the ephedrine makes it last longer... and suppresses appetite... and burns fat..... It gives me less nausea and less heart fluttering than a monster.

When do you find time to eat the Lark's Tongues in Aspic? Seriously though, chobani yogurt and sushi... I'd have a mouthful of my own bile before I even got the yogurt or sushi off the plate.

Chobani is pretty decent as far as nationally-available strained yogurt goes. The only national brand I've had that's better is Fage. What do you recommend? If you say "Yoplait" or "Dannon" I will hunt you down and kill you.

Brown Cow isn't awful I suppose, YoCrunch every once in a while. I don't really like yogurt to be honest, it gives me strained poo, if you know what I mean.
