I have DVD drives and of course a bigger old school HD..

The SSD drive is going to get OS and BF3 and maybe some other programs like photoshop and 3D software. Everything else will be installed on another non SSD drive.

A strange story - My room mates kid broke all my OS DVD's including my Win 7 DVD and the key on the box was ripped off. YES I KNOW I SHOULD MAKE HIS A** PAY FOR IT. But he is going through some hard times and I dont want to make a huge deal if i need to purchase it again no big deal. Is there anyway to get that KEY since I do have it installed on my old machine? Win 7 64 bit Home premium.

A few things- on the OS, you could try making image restore disks, then restoring it to the new computer.

On x58, you will need triple channel memory. Also, really that is the only reason to go x58. For gaming, get a p67/z68 setup. your budget is $1000 for Mobo, cpu, ram, gpu, psu, and ssd? I am certain we can find a better gaming setup for $1k.

For the X58 isnt the corsair memory DDR3 or you mean there is a different ram I need to get?

I looked for a P67 and foudn this asus mobo -

a little cheaper then the X58 but it looks like its a different chipset!

This is my 1st Intel build Im not familiar with Intel builds at all.

What they are saying is that if you use the X58 mobo, you are going to need 3 sticks of memory. I agree that for a gaming build the P67/Z68 motherboards would be a better use on money .

That Sabertooth board is a different chipset. Its the P67 and you would use the second Gen intel chips. An i5-2500k would be my suggestion. The CPU will likely be cheaper as well!

Ok so if I got with the X58 get 3 sticks of memory since that what makes that mobo special.. got ya...

That comes out to just a little bit above $1000 with the AMD and just below/at $1000 with the Nvidia card. BF3 won't be easy on the GPU, but what is your resolution?

I thought the i7 would be more powerfull?

Im running 2 Asus full HDMI 25" monitors thats why I want the video to have dual DVI out since the HDMI slot in each monitor is already taken by my Xbox and Ps3
 
Ahh ok then that AMD card would be perfect for you!(You could even game on both monitors with the one card then.

Well the i7 isn't really more powerful. Its on 1336 and that platform is not worth it at the price. Even used its quite expensive. Sandybridge is basically just as powerful as 1336 for much less though.
Now do you plan on overclocking? Because if you do not care about that at all, an i5 2400 or so would be fine as well for pure gaming and just internet browsing.

Its because the i7 doesnt give you any more performance for gaming. NONE. And unless you do a lot of video/photo work, the added cost isnt justified by the added performance. And unless you are making a living doing video stuff, you will never see the difference.

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
6) Will you be overclocking?
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

8. From now till Sept since BF3 is due to release in october and I need time to put it together.

9. No onboard video , RAID, and as long its compatible with SSD and regular SATA II drives and everything else in here.

10. Use to have a legit key and DVD untill they were both destroyed - If the imaging thing doesnt work I guess buying it again wouldnt be the end of the world. My borther has his Win 7 DVD from the time I built his system. Its the Key that I'm missing.

Also My borther would go with the same build so we would purchase 2 sets of everything!
 
You can recover the key, Google "recovering windows 7 key". There is a lot of freeware that can do this.
 
Are you within driving distance of a physical Micro Center store?

When are you going to buy all of the parts for this machine?

What "old Antec case" do you have? Can you show us a few pictures of it?

Besides BF3, what games do you plan on playing? Are you going to game on both monitors?

What do you mean by the monitors' HDMI ports "already taken"?

OK can you purchase everything within a month? I ask because our recommendations tends to change every month. As such parts we recommend this month may not be recommended in August or September.

Yes there is a Micro Center about 5 mins down the street.
But I really dislike their prices and those guys try an act like they know it all when they are just trying to make some commission on you. So at Micro center anything that is cheap in price is really really bad..lol

No I do not want to game on both monitors but I like Dual-monitors on when I'm using photoshop and programs like that.

I have the X58 with Core i7, and 6GB of ram, Great for gaming, I got the evga gtx 295 co-op edition. Plays games very nicely. *See Sig*
 
Yeah, I'd definitely stay away from an X58 at this late in the game. Its' replacement, the X79 I believe it's called, is set to come out early next year. Go with Z68, or at the very least P67 if you plan on building now.

It is like 10 FPS at your resolution(1920x1080/1200). And that is even less/none existant with a 2500K.

The case fans are a concern as they appear to be all 80mm fans. Due to the increased heat output coming from your new parts, I recommend either modding the case so that it accepts 120mm fans or buying a new case that supports 120mm fans.

Have you thought about using an HDMI switch for the gaming consoles? Regardless, most of the high-end video cards each come with at least one HDMI port and one DVI port.

Micro Center's B&M stores have better prices on the processor and other parts than NewEgg. Plus, depending on the store, you may be able to price-match with NewEgg or obtain a discount for buying all of the parts to your computer from there. (You may need to call beforehand to see what "specials" your local MC offers.)

Better question: Are you ready to buy everything this weekend? September is a long time in terms of parts; whatever we recommend now may be overpriced, outdated, or out of stock by the time September rolls around.

I forgot to ask this earlier: What specific (brand/model) hard drive are you reusing? How old is it?
 
about the Case.
2x 80mm spots in the front, one is placed in the bay for the hard drives
1x 80mm spot on the side (lower)/ 1x 80mm or 120mm (higher)
1x 120mm on the back with low.med.high presets Antec 13 120mm fan

Which fans should be blowing in and which should blow out?
When I was at micro center I purchased wiremesh to place in with the fans
to control a little dust coming in.

I thought about it and im going to wait till sept to purchase everything.

Yes, you are correct Microcenter has the i5 2500 K for 179.00 and SSD drives 60 gbs corsair for about 100.00.

Their motherboard selection on the other hand is horrible.
Only carrie MSI/Asus for the P67 chipset and the boards are way over prices.
Cases, powersupply external fans are all freaking crazy expensive compared to new egg.

Im going to wait to see if by Sept the prices drop yet again but I can def save some serious money by either buying some things at newegg and some at Micro Center.
I will try and see if they will give me the same price as new egg.

In the mean time I know now what I need and I will be in the look out for good savings.
If i can get a couple of parts on sale before Sept Im def going to buy.

The build that was 1000 went down to about 750 by purchasing different items at different places. Let see if I can get it lower and have even more money to spend on a beffy Video Card.
