Hi, my brothers computer is capable of playing the games he tried to play because they have worked great in the past. But eventually performance degrades as though something is happening in the background.

Unfortunatley Razer Gamebooster doesn't help, and GamePrelauncher isn't supported in Win8.

So my questions are: do you know what processes are required for sound, video, and internet so I can create him a gaming profile in windows 8 that's starts up with nothing at all. I basically want to achieve what Game Prelauncher does manually.

Thanks

You'd have to take the time to provide at least SOME details here...

AMD or nvidia graphics?
What sound driver?
What input devices?
What accessories?
What chipset?

But in the end, you're probably going to be best served figuring out what the underlying cause is and fixing that - check Task Manager once performance starts to degrade, see what's going on.

Here is my diagnotstic report from GameBooster it should have everything:

Tell me if I'm wrong, but what I'm seeing here is that your OS drive (the C: drive) is a 120GB UltraATA drive (not even SATA?) from 2002, and your E: drive is a slightly newer 230GB SATA drive from 2007.

That 11-year-old hard drive could be failing just because it's so old.

Those HD's are old yes, and he'll upgrade when he can.

Do you see anything that might help that doesn't involve buying new hardware? I agree that does need to be :)

Check the event log for serious problems.
Hardware faults can cause the PC to momentarily pause normal functions.

Yeah if your brother's system is now experiencing slowdowns after working great in the past with the exact same games, that definitely sounds like there's a software issue. You shouldn't have to set up a whole new profile or even run bullshit programs like Razer Gamebooster or GamePrelauncher if your OS is set-up correctly.

Run an anti-virus and malware scan. Also, try a fresh install of WIndows but with only add in drivers and no other additional software to create a base line for performance.

Though I wouldn't put it it being a case of old slow drives.
