Gaming performance difference e6600 vs i7

I have a e6600@3.4 on a evga 680i board with 2 gtx 260c216 55nm's and 6gb ddr2 800 ram. Basically I'm wondering how much of a difference in gaming performance I should expect before I shell out 600 bucks to replace my motherboard CPU and ram. This is for a 24" display at 1920x1200 res. I have the cash for an upgrade now but im just hesitant to pull the trigger and want to know if there is any reason to wait for near future upgrades that better justify the dollars... any advice is appreciated!

Best thing to do is get an E8400 or Q95X0 and wait for the next round of CPU's to come.

Hold off on any CPU/mobo/RAM upgrade. No reason for you to upgrade to either a E8400 CPU or Core i7 CPU.

No reason to upgrade to a higher Core 2 when your E6600 is already OCed.
However the i7 will give some boost on Dual GPU configurations which I see you're using.

no need your vid cards are enough to handle most everything gaming wise. You're oc-ed cpu won't bottleneck your vid cards that much

I went from a setup that's very close to yours to a i7. It really depends on if you would plan to O/C the i7. I've got mine @ 4.2, and honestly, it smokes the Wolfdale I had in there before.

There's a number of factors to consider and it also depends on how eager you are to upgrade. If you are gonna upgrade, the only upgrade to consider is i7. Anything else is just a waste of $$

It's always better to wait to upgrade. If you see no need to upgrade immediately then don't.

I've upgraded three times since I had a E6400, each time the system was faster and more useful. If you are looking for that HELLYA upgrade then IMO jumping from an E6600 to a D0 i720 is going to get you there.

It's kinda off-topic, but one other upgrade that will knock your socks off would be a would be a pair of Vertex SSDs in RAID0
