I would like assistance tweaking my current summer project. I am upgrading from the workstation in my signature.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming, Programming
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
~1500
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
NYC
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU+Cooler / MOBO / RAM / VIDEO / CASE / Storage
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Sound / PSU
6) Will you be overclocking?
Why else would I be [H]ere!
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1080p 40"
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
~20-40 days
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
bios full disk encryption, SLI for upgradeability.... the rest is basically guaranteed on the Z77/Z78 line of boards.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Win7 pro 64bit
Parts List So far
CPU $249.99
*Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz
Motherboard $147.55
*Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150
CPU Cooler $99.99 (to be able to overclock or go silent.)
*Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid
Memory $114.99
*Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
Storage $176.98 +$94.99
*Samsung 840 Series 250GB 2.5" SSD
*Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card $405.91
*Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 2GB
Case $139.99
*Corsair 650D ATX Mid Tower
TOTAL PRICE: $1420.39
I already have:
Power Supply
Corsair 950W ATX12V / EPS12V
Sound Card
Asus Xonar DX
Other Thoughts:
-In terms of Ivy vs Haswell there is a $40 premium on the i5, and the motherboards can be about the same price. I am not sure if it pays to save a little bit to go back one generation in processors to save such a small amount.
-SLI would be a nice feature because in the event I decide to spring for a 3LCD setup, I would need a 2nd 770gtx.
-I priced at newegg though I could save a little by breaking it up into 5 different stores.
