Looking to help a friend of mine build his first PC, and hoping that you fine folks here can steer me in the right direction. Nothing crazy, just a pretty straightforward build. Budget is $800, including Win7, so more like $700 for the actual hardware. He's got all the accessories (mouse, KB, speakers, etc), so just need the rig.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Primarily browsing and gaming, mostly the staples - WoW, Diablo 3, Skyrim, etc. He's a biochemist, so he'll also be doing some light 3-D molecular modeling (Folding and what-not)
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$800.00, all inclusive
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
CT - sadly, closest Microcenter is over 2 hours away, and probably not worth the price in gas for any potential savings
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, RAM, MB, GPU, PSU, Case, optical drive (DVD burner should be fine). Budget-permitting, an SSD for an OS drive would be super.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
1TB Samsung Spinpoint HDD
6) Will you be overclocking?
No
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
23" 1920x1080
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Within a week
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
Nothing special required here
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
He will need Win7 64bit
Yup, should be a pretty easy job for you guys here, and I leave the rest in the very capable hands of the [H]. Thanks in advance!
