Hey everyone! I've been out of the game for a bit so I'm back asking the experts.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1000, I'd like to keep it as close as possible so cut corners where we can.

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

Orlando, FL, USA

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, motherboard, RAM, solid state drive, Graphics card, case, power supply, heat sink
[possibly new mouse and headset if its in the budget]

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I'll probably grab the old sata DVD drive from my last computer and I have Windows 7 OS (which I'll upgrade to 10 right after the install). I also will be keeping the monitors and keyboards.

6) Will you be overclocking?
No

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1080p 24"

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
ASAP, this week or next

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s?
Not super picky on this, USB 3.0/3.1 and Sata 6. I'm not current enough to know what else I might not know that I want

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yes, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

To add some more thoughts Case doesn't matter to me just something that works.
I've also heard good things about the Intel Pentium G3258, so I'd like thoughts on that, other wise I'll go with the non K version of an i5.

The Pentium G3258 was good when it was released three years ago, but today anything less than a Core i3 is a waste of time as a gaming system. Too many console ports with support for 4-8 threads, and having vastly less cores than threads can affect minimum frame rates.

My suggestion:

PC Hound Part List

Do you think the K processor is necessary if I'm not overclocking, or was it just the best deal?
Any brand preference in Mobos and GPUs"

Sorry I didn't clarify: It's an i5 6500. PC Hound is just buggy as hell, and marked it 6600k

If you click the purchase link it will take you to the i5 6500 page.

If the budget was up to $1200, would you change anything? Or should I put that toward peripherals, like mouse and headset?

Also if anyone else would like to give their 2 cents feel free!

Nope, spend it on peripherals :D

GTX 970 is overkill for today's games at 1080p, and should give you several years of high performance. $200 more will just get you a small performance bump with the GTX 980. You'd have to spend $300 more to get any significant improvement in the GTX 980 Ti. Your call if you want to drop that kind of cash, but I don't think it's as good a value card as the 970. You pay twice the price for 40% more performance.

I'd save that money and spend it on a new video card a few years down the road. The new 14nm process node will mean lower power, and lower prices!

The i7 6700k is way too expensive for you to justify, and only benefits people looking for high overclocks and that elusive 120fps.

get a core i5 6600K coolermaster hyper evo 212 cooler and a asus strix Gtx970. Go buy them at a microcenter if you live near one.

holy shit! i cant believe this build is less than £700.

wow

If you're really itching to spend $200 more on something (that's not the other peripherals previously mentioned), you can upgrade your monitor - maybe be a 1440p monitor or a 120/144hz monitor. The gtx 970 should be able to handle either

This could be a good option. The monitor is likely to last through multiple graphics cards. In my opinion, stuff like monitors and keyboards are always a good thing to spend a little extra on, as they not only tend to be with you longer, but they also improve the experience a lot more tangibly than some incremental increase in GPU horsepower.

That said, my GTX970 has been a little disappointing in that even at 1080P, it still struggles to maintain 60FPS at whatever settings most games decide are optimal. I'm not sure I'd really want to spend $1200 and have it do even worse. This in mind, spending the extra money on a GPU that's a little faster seems like a reasonable idea, to me. A 390X can be had for about $100 more, meaning you'd still have $100 left of a $1200 budget to get a fancy mouse, or cables or whatever other little odds and ends you need.

Other than this, I think Defaultluser's suggestion is spot on, though.
