I was looking at getting a new gaming mouse. I'm not going to be spending a huge amount on one, just around 30-40CAD. I had my eye on the OCZ Equalizer. I did consider the Dominatrix, but the shape didn't feel right in my hand, and it is more expensive. I took a trek over to the local computer shop to see what they had. Unfortunately they don't carry OCZ ( didn't ask the reason despite it seeming a bit odd ). What he offered for my budget was the 'A4Tech X7'. Looking into it a bit brought up some curious finding. I'm starting to wonder if this is the exact same mouse. They both seem to have the same shape to them. They both have the triple fire button, and the on the fly DPI adjust, that has the same ranges for DPI settings. They are even priced the same. The OCZ mentions having the 'Agilent 6010 Chip', which I can't find on the A4Tech mouse. What I would like to know is if these appear to be the same mouse to others, or if there is something different? Are these good choices? The DPI seems nice and high, which I like, and reviews seem mostly favorable. It seems to feel good in my hand.

Anyone have an alternate fitting into the price scheme (CAD only please) ? Think this one (or either of these if they are different ???)) is good?

That was my first thought.

The mice you are looking at are junk where it counts. They have HUGE DPI numbers but can't manage at low DPI/High speed.

Find a diamondback 3g (NCIX, Canada computers (If you are in Ontario), tiger direct or best buy) or death adder, and pay the extra bucks to get a really nice gaming mouse.

Hell, if you can find an MX518 by logitech, get that alternatively. It'll be really cheap by now, and kills the ones you are already looking at.

I'm a razer guy myself. Love em.

/Agreed. I had an MX518 a while back, awesome mouse.
 
I like the MX518, and it's a little closer to the price range but a little bit out of the budgeted range.

Keep in mind this is going to be a SECONDARY gaming mouse. The Lachesis is still the top dog, but this will be used by company, and I figured I would be a little nicer than the terrible one I give 'em now.

EDIT: What exactly do you mean by it not handling the lower DPI/Speed Well?
 
OP, I've seen good reviews for both mice mentioned in your original post. No personal experience, though.
 
It looked okay to me for the price range. For myself It's not what I would buy, but I will end up using it at times, and the floor model felt okay in hand, but I've not been able to actually use it. I really can't justify to the little woman spending more than a few bucks on a mouse that will only see partial use. I have been spending a lot on this stuff as late, and I don't really need it. Guests were complaining about the old one dieing though.

EDIT: Any comments on the shocking similarity between the two? Possibly just a relabeled version of the same thing? I wouldn't have to have the V7 shipped, which is nice, and the logitech ones are a bit cheaper than I can get locally. I'd go for something a little more to get local to avoid shipping, but more expensive AND shipping is a no. I have to stick to the budget if I want to get laid for the next week guys.
 
For just $10 - $15 more you could snag a Diamondback 3G. It's better than the two mice you listed. You'll get years of smooth gaming performance. That's well worth a week with no sex.
 
Anywhere I can find it its's almost double the cost, and I would have to pay for shipping, or an almost hour drive to Kingston.
 
The Equalizer and A4Tech X7 are indeed the same mouse. I have an Equalizer that I use at 1600DPI and it tracks just as well as any other mouse I've used. Build quality is a bit cheap, but it's good where it counts, and that's in its tracking ability. At lower sensitivity it probably wouldn't do so great like most laser mice, but if you plan on using a reasonably high sensitivity, you won't have any tracking problems.

Your point being? The OP was asking in terms of CAD (as can be seen in his first post, if you had bothered to read it). Plus, he can't order from Newegg.com either, so the link you posted was completely useless.

MX518 is all you need, its has everything, and the optical is much better than lasers especially for low sensitivity gamers.

The deathadder is nice too if you like the feel of the mouse better than the mx518, both are opticals.
 
MX518 or DeathAdder. Have/had both, and you can't go wrong with either one, they are excellent no-nonsense mice.
 
I have MX518, I can't praise it enough but it's really wearing out, the scroll is making a lot of noise and there's almost nothing left of the "skin" on the sides.

Oh and I'm getting a DeathAdder hopefully tomorrow. My friend ordered 1 for him and 1 for me along with his new rig.
 
The MX518 is still too much. It is all I would need, but I really am not willing to go that high. The Death Adder would be nice but I can't seem to find it at the usual place (TigerDirect, DirectCanada, NCIX, or CanadaComputers) I may check the local staples but aside from that it seems non existent.

So the higher DPI of a Lazer mouse would be much worse (even with the DPI turned down) than the optical mouses (mice?) suggested?

Laser mice have far superior tracking ability than optical mice at high DPI levels. It's only at very low DPI that they fall down, since they can't cope with high acceleration as well. If you don't intend on using a low DPI setting, a laser mice will have much better precision. Conversely, if you do use low sensitivity, an optical mouse would track better.
 
At a certain point laser and optical mice reach a climax where the difference is indistinguishable between the two. At that point, the only difference is the white paper, packaging and marketing.
 
I can't stand the Revolution. It doesn't feel right in my hand, and bothers my wrist after long use.

Yes, and the link posted by the user I was replying to was from Newegg.com, not Newegg.ca. Canadians cannot order from Newegg.com.
 
Unfortunately the MX518 people suggested is 50 bucks on newegg not counting the huge taxes and delivery charges. It would end up being a 75 dollar purchase....

EDIT: I may check out ebay and see what is there...

You listed Tiger as being an option (unless I didn't read that right) and they have it for $40. It is a great mouse and I would recommend it if you can find it. It is pretty common in B&M stores around here (BestBuy CircuitCity etc) too, so I dunno what you guys have up there, but I bet you could find one.

I can use the Canadian site for tiger (tigerdirect.ca) and it's still over 70 bucks all said and done.

I think it was 33 bucks for the X7, that's no gas spent and after taxes (with store discount), so I would be paying more than double the cost. It's just not in the cards to spend that much.
 
That's a little better. Unfortunately I can't get it locally so it's still almost 60 bucks all in.

I haven't used this one before, is it worth the extra money? Anyone have one who can describe the feel?
 
That is a great mouse. Very smooth. First mouse I ever bought and I loved it. Its not quite as good for "twitchy" gaming as some of the newer options, but it won't disappoint you.

It's on buy.com listed as a factory refurb - recently bought one, the box was sealed as new.. using the mouse now, and i'm loving it so far.. (came from IME 3.0 and MX Revolution)

When you hear an IME 3.0 user say they left to another mouse and liked it, you know you have a winner ;)

Loved my 1g diamondback. the 3rd gen one is amazingly better (Didn't think it was possible, but the Death adders optics are THAT good. )
