**Note**: I'd like a gaming computer I can use that will remain quiet, as in you barely know its running type of quiet. I'm also a bit out of touch on current technology, google and wikipedia can only tell me so much before my head spins. Please forgive my somewhat-ignorance, but keeping track of technology does get to be a pain at times. I'd rather ask the forum here rather then depending on random internet searches.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming
-Using 1280 x 1024 resolution with all graphical settings maxed out
--EXCEPT for AntiAliasing and Antrioscopic Filtering (I can disable them if needed)
--I'll be using Win7 for DX10/11 games that take advantage of it.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$850, with tax & shipping included
3) Where do you live?
Virginia, USA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
COMPUTER (TOWER):
Case - looking at an Antec Case here. Would support two 'large' 180mm case fans and possibly up to 4 of those if needed, but I'm trying to keep noise level down.
Power Supply (PSU) - whatever is needed to support one or possibly 2 video cards, depending on what is needed
Case Fan(s) - possibly only one or two, they need to be *quiet* fans...
Motherboard - more details below about MoBo
Processor (CPU) - Should be dual-core or better, total 2.5+ Ghz or higher
CPU Cooler/Heatsink with Fan (HSF) - Should be included with CPU, or cheap to get a better one
Memory (RAM) - DDR3 (or DDR4 if released) fast memory, 8 GB should be fine
Hard Drive (HDD) - Should be SATA2 (or SATA3 if those are available yet), 2 hard drives at least, at least 120 GB (or better), best bang for the buck as they say...
Optical (Disc) Drive (CD/DVD/HD-DVD/BR) - Needs to read and burn CDs and DVDs.
Video/Graphics Card (GPU) - need a sub-$300 graphics card, best bang for the buck, preferably Nvidia but I'm willing to go ATI if they have good drivers...driver recommendations welcome if you can personally recommend some, otherwise I'll just use default ones.
Sound Card - Onboard sound is fine
Additional Cards
-- Wireless (802.11b/g/n) Network - I already have a USB wireless thing so I'm good
-- RAID controller - optional, built into the motherboard preferably
-- IDE/ATA/SATA controller - if needed, must be built into the motherboard
Miscellaneous
-- Floppy drive - hell no, no need, ever.
-- Memory card reader - not needed
-- Fan controller - shouldn't need it, computer should be quiet even when running intensive stuff
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
No reused parts.
6) Will you be overclocking?
Nope.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
Anything 17" or better, best bang for the buck, must have 75 hz refresh rate in 1280 x 1024 native res, at least, or better.
Widescreen monitor *preferred* but not required.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Within the next 7-14 days, the sooner the better...
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
I know about RAID, its an optional bonus if I can get it within my budget with everything already on the motherboard. Must have at least 4 USB ports (preferably at least 2 of them front-mounted), and anything else is a bonus, but should have PCI-express 16x slot (or whatever's the newest graphic card spec/speed)
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
WinXP Pro 64-bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I'll acquire them myself, since a friend of mine works for M$ and can get them cheaper than retail for me.
Any information would be appreciated, many thanks!
