looking for some wisdom...


1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Full system build including monitor. I'd like to go with a Corsair h80 again. I had really good luck with it on my last build. Also, a 600T case.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Keyboard and Mouse. I already have a razer blackwidow and a mamba to rock with. Also I have decent speakers.

6) Will you be overclocking?

7) 7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

And wait for the Z77 boards. They're going to hit the market in 4 days.

What kind of storage do you want - SSD, HDD, combination?
How about ODD - just a DVD/CD burner, or a BluRay player or burner?
 
Does it have to be the 600T? Why not the cheaper 400R or 500R?

Either of the others have provision for H2O cooling, as well.

Just throwing out some options...

im flexable on storage. honestly, im flexable on case as well if its got good build quality and has good filters to help me keep the system clean. im also flexable on optical media. blu ray really isnt important to me at all.
 
Cool. I'd recommend waiting 4-5 days for the Z77 boards and reviews to surface, then let's revisit this. Ivy Bridge likely won't be much different in price than Sandy Bridge, so at least there we can make some guesstimates.

Yet you do not post a build.

I counter with this:

Cost? Around $1400. To get it in budget probably would have to get a small SSD for windows and a hard drive for actual files.
 
That's because the OP is now going to wait until Ivy Bridge comes out before he does his build and for a gaming computer, no need at all for the i7 processors when the i5 runs games just as good, if not better in some cases.

Yeah your counter setup still has issues:
- That SSD is somehow less reliable and slower than other Marvel based SSDs. Not to mention that the faster, more reliable, and also Marvel based Crucial m4 128GB SSD costs $40 less:
$160 - Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SSD

- For a gaming only setup, the 2600K is more or less a waste of money unless it's for e-peen. The extra $100 or so can be better spent elsewhere like a GTX 680. For a gaming only setup, the 2500K will be more than enough. Though a moot point since that's gonna be swapped for an IB CPU

- That P67 mobo isn't a really good choice considering that you're gonna get slightly higher SSD performance from a Z68 motherboard as well as the capability to use the onboard video in case of emergency. Again a moot point, since it's gonna be swapped for a Z75 or Z77 motherboard

- The OP didn't mention a need whatsoever for a blu-ray drive.

- You forgot the RAM.

No source for his statement, could be biased. If reliablity was a selling point I would get this Plextor for 20 more but longer warranty and MTBF: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820249014

In addition to whatever SSD he buys, I would advice on a WD Caviar Black. I have a Seagate drive HDD I got a good deal on that still works and is very fast, but wish I had bought a Caviar Black.

Even at the $118 price, still overpriced unless you really like the blue color scheme. You can get two of this RAM set for $24 to $46 less:

Unfortunately posting specs doesn't help when it comes to SSDs: We saw this happen with the first gen Sandforce SSDs: Despite having higher stated specs, they were actually slower than other SSDs at the time like the Intel G2 and the older Crucial C300 due to the Sandforce's poor random read/write speeds and artificial benchmarked speeds.

I will admit that I confused the Performance Pro for the Performance 3 which did not do well:

But perhaps the Corsair Performance Pro is the better drive. But as you said, not good enough to justify the $40 or so.

Depends on which Caviar Black drive you're talking about. Pretty much most of the 1TB and smaller Black drives are actually slower than drives from current drives from Seagate, Hitachi, or Samsung. The 2TB Black Drive, however, is fairly solid.

...and expect about $20-50 in rebates just like there is right now when you build after IB comes out.

I'm speculating that a decent Z77 board and a i5-3570K will be around $400, which should be a feasable price target. Lots of tweaks and adjustments that can be made with the other components, like a smaller/cheaper HDD, 400R case at $100, GTX 560ti 448c for $260, H80 like you mentioned, etc.
 
You are local to newegg? So they'll charge you tax. What state are you in since it will probably be a lot cheaper to order taxes off Amazon since it might not charge you tax, depending on where you are.

Yeah best to order from Amazon as that'll easily shave off $100 in taxes alone. Plus most of the good parts from Amazon.com have free shipping.
