1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
I will be using emulators (So CPU is important) and some medium gaming at 1080p.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
My budget is $2000 or less.
3) Where do you live?
US
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU
RAM
HDD
PSU
Video Card
Optical Drive
Monitor
Keyboard/Mouse
OS
MB
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I have a 2 TB external HDD, so I will be using that for most storage.
6) Will you be overclocking?
I plan on doing basic cpu/gpu overclocking, but nothing too complicated or extreme.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
22 inch, 1080p
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Within a week or so.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
I want an MB that future proofs my computer somewhat (Sata3, USB3, etc.) I would also like one that makes overclocking easier and more user friendly.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
I I plan on using win7 64bit.
Here is what I have so far:
ViewSonic VA2231w - LED Black 22" Full HD LED Backlight LCD Monitor Slim Design
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
ASRock X58 EXTREME6 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W ATX12V 2.2
HP 24X Multiformat DVD Writer Black SATA Model 1260i
Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"
LIAN LI PC-A71F Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case
Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
COOLER MASTER Intel Core i7 compatible V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
I'm wondering whether the case is overkill, as well as what GPU to get. Are these full tower cases as huge as some make them out to be? In the past, I've owned dells, so I don't have any comparable computers in terms of size. I don't want to do SLI or crossfire, so I'm not sure whether to get a card now or wait until the new 6xxx radeons. If it matters, this is my first attempt at building a computer, so I want a case and MB that make it easy to do.
Thanks!
