Hey there guys, in my last thread you guys told me to wait to put a build together closer to my intended buy date. If everything goes as planned I'll start placing orders and picking up parts in about two weeks. So are there any improvements you guys would like to make to my list? One person in the previous thread did say that the HD 5850 would be in stock around this time. I wanna keep the price around $1200, thanx for your help as usual.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
gaming/programming/burning

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
around a thousand

3) Where do you live?
Arkansas

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
cpu,ram,mobo, video card, hd, os

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
i plan on reusing my Corsair 750 Watt TX Series Power Supply but i'm unsure if it will be adequate.

6) Will you be overclocking?
no

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
22" but i might upgrade this to a 24"

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
February 2010

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
i'd like the option of SLI just in case I ever pick up a second card and bigger display

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
yes, i plan to use windows 7

I've had my current build for about a year and a half and would like to upgrade a few things. Here's what I would like to buy:

MSI X58 Eclipse SLI LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

win7 64bit

CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) $175

Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz $289

GeForce GTX 280 1GB 512-bit $254
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125200&Tpk=geforce 280

OCZ Vertex Series OCZSSD2-1VTX30GXXX 2.5" 30GB $130

Both the mobo and GPU are currently out of stock. The GPU is definitely not coming back into stock.

Also, the RAM price is now $160, not $175. Ahh fuck it, here's a new build altogther:
$290 - Intel Core i7 920 CPU
$210 - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 ATX Motherboard
$160 - Corsair CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600 RAM
$300 - XFX HD-585A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5850 1GB PCI-E Video Card
$130 - Intel SSDSA2MP040G2R5 2.5" 40GB SSD
$105 - Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM
----
Total: $1195 plus tax and shipping.

If that $1000 is a firm limit, drop the HD 5850 to the HD 5770:
$165 - XFX HD-577X-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 1GB PCI-E Video Card

Danny's build is quite good.

Seems that DDR3 prices just keep growing higher and higher. That famous red kit is now $165, was $150 a few months ago, and I bought it for $95 last March.

If you get a 24" within the next few months, you'll probably want an HD5800 series card. If you stick with a 22", the HD5770 should do fine. For a single SSD, the Intel/Kingston 40GB (or soon to be out 30GB) would be better than an Indilinx based drive, IMO.

Well right now i'm looking at the Radeon HD 5850, and what about my power supply? Should I upgrade that too? It's only 750 after all.

I decided to go with the following ssd instead of the one quoted above

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148318&Tpk=CT64M225

I ordered the ram, mobo and processor today. Is the ssd I want still compatible with the rest of my system?

i'm too busy to check, but if it is all those things danny mentioned, then yes, it's still a good choice, but not as good as the intel/kingston in a single drive config. did you want more space? is that why you looked at the crucial instead?

yea i saw it had more space and thought why not. But no matter, I stuck with the intel ssd and the rest of my parts for the upgrade arrived today. Wish me luck.

Great build suggestion by Danny. I will have to build one similar to his suggestion.

hey guys, i got it built today but my monitor and keyboard won't come on. My mouse wheel lights up but my monitor automatically goes to sleep and my keyboard doesn't come on at all. When I push the power button on my pc everything seems to work fine as far as the fans spinning and leds coming on. You guys got any suggestions?

Have you tried anything yet? Everything connected properly (ie GPU auxiliary power)?

Immediately what comes to mind is to check that the GPU is properly seated, ie take it out and firmly put it back in. Try a different USB port for the keyboard (if USB). Is the monitor responsive?

Read the Basic Troubleshooting Guide

I just looked in my mobo manual and a trouble shooting section isn't in it. Do you have a link to one?

edit: nvm, i foundit
