I've been lurking here for a couple months, and you guys seem very helpful. This is my first build and on a budget of $700. I need help building a computer that can handle PC games well. I also plan to use the dolphin emulator.

Sounds like the typical build in your price range would work fine: Ph2 X4, 770, HD5770, 4GB, 500GB F3, EA650, CM RC-590/RC-690 or Antec 300, DVDRW SATA, etc.
 
I put this together the other day for someone looking in that price range...didnt get around to buying it but its still in the cart. Retail AMD cooler. You could swap around the CPU, case + power supply, different mobo for crossfire, etc, but it gives you an idea of how much PC you can squeeze out of that budget.

Decent build other than this, what is this piece of crap case with some unknown psu? I would also stick with XFX for gpu instead of MSI especially since the egg cooler version is about the same price.
 
Working with a budget there. Feel free to suggest another case and PSU...or just be combative.

I plan on upgrading to a 24" 1080p Asus monitor.

I mostly play shooters. I plan to play 1080p @ 60fps in most games if possible. I care about frame rate more than resolution, really.

Hmm, that is quite a tight budget but we can make that work. Unfortunately you didn't tell us what taht build was for so I'm going off these assumptions (let me know if they're wrong):
- It's for gaming
- 1TB of space is needed
- Budget for the actual PC is roughly $640

$158 - AMD Athlon II X3 435 CPU + Gigabyte GA-MA770TA-UDP3 AMD 770 ATX Motherboard Combo
$105 - G.Skill Ripjaw Series F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL 2 x 2GB DDR3 1600 RAM
$160 - XFX HD-577a-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 1GB PCI-E Video Card
$90 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$25 - LG GH22NS50 DVD Burner

The X3 435 performs about the same as the X4 635 in games. The Seagate 1TB drive is a tad slower than the WD 1TB Black drive but for the price, it's a better deal. The above setup nets you a significantly better quality PSU that'll allow for bettter future upgrades.

looks like Danny's got you covered. For a 1080P monitor, you'd probably want a better vidcard, but you don't have the budget for it.
