Xbox 360 owners and computer users running Windows Vista will finally be able to play against each other when Games for Windows launches in May. If you already have Xbox Live, you are set, it works on both the PC and the Xbox 360.

The PC version of Live will debut on May 8 with the launch of the Windows Vista version of "Halo 2," Microsoft's popular alien shooter game. Live members will need just one account, whether they play on the Xbox 360, the PC, or both machines.

I may be a little naive on this, but wouldnt that put quite a handicap on people that are playing on the console. It just seems that there would be more precision using a mouse than the controller. And then being on a super fast rig.

And what about security. Once again could be a bit naive, but now that its ported to the pc, I can imagine all kinds of hacks or dos attempts on the live servers.

And the ability now to charge a monthly fee for play on the PC... good gawd. Well at least I have a year already registered on my xbox 360. I'm set.

Oh and I'll be buying Halo 2 for the pc even though I have a 360. Mouse and keyboard will ream.

Looking at the game play of Shadow Run and Halo 2, it looks like the time it takes to empty a whole clip into an apponent to take them down will give enough time for control pad users to adjust.

Now when I played Q3 PC vs Dreamcast, that was a slaughter. I cant say I remember any consol player ever performing a rocket jump, unless they had the Dreamcast mouse/keyboard or the dreamcast/ps2 adapter.

If I already have a Gold sub for Xbox, that will apply to PC too, correct?

Seems to me like Microsoft is holding carrots in front of their user base in the hopes that they will follow along to a Vista upgrade. Why would this be Vista only?

YESS!!! finally i can track what games i've played and IM my friends to come and join me and play Halo 2 on the PC on Vista even though its been out for two years!!!and that too for such a cheap price!! OHHHH YEAAA.................wait, what?

i think it's great news, makes my XBL subscription a better value, now that friends that are still gaming on PC's (with Vista of course) can game with me, etc......

i am surprised that nobody has commented on what impact this will have on the competition like PS3 and Wii, not to start a flame war here, but one has to admit, M$ has now effectively cornered things, Operating System, "Games for Windows" on Live and XBL integrated using a all-in-one account, nice move M$, one more feature Sony and Nintendo simply cannot compete with

They were talking about the service levels on another site. They decided that pc-to-pc multiplayer can be done with a free silver subscription, but to do cross platforming and have achievements, you must have a gold account. Hopefully, the number of cross-platform games between the PC and the 360 increases as vista live comes out. I'd rather play my buddies in UT III from my PC than having to buy a copy for the 360 as well.

I'm not liking it for stuff like halo2 I'm just really sore about it. Now for the games on live yeah it sounds neat, I played one the other day and I liked it.

Is this becoming an MS version of steam?

Ditto

Depends on price and the console game communities aren't that big. We'll see how it pans out.

The question now is who has the greater hope (and best strategy) of taking over all entertainment media in the home...

Will it be Microsoft's new Xbox Live merging the online worlds of PCs and console, or will it be Sony and their Blue-ray blitz of our home entertainment systems coupled along with their "MMO-esque" HOME service?

It is a battle of who will be ultimately successful in merging both our physical and virtual homes.
