Wondering what you all thought about which games had some of the best soundtracks?

I am still a huge fan of SimCity 2K and Quake.

Something about hearing MIDI files makes me feel like a kid again too.

Warcraft 2 I thought had awesome music, especially the Orc themes, with the timpani drums and overall battle feel to them

7th Guest. I still love "Skeletons in my closet"

FF7, Chrono Cross, SOTN, Phantasy Star 4, and who can leave out Sonic and Mario.

ff2, ff3.

actraiser(that first map still gives me chills when the music starts up)

metroid, super metroid.

castlevanias, super castlevania(when that piano track kicks in with the funky bass in the first map, i just start dancing with my cat. and you know you do too!)

at nintendo there were some true musical geniuses that made some of those tracks. They had very little to work with on the nintendo and SNES but damn, they made the most of it.

Damn how could I forget Blastermaster, Rivercity randsom, and Zelda..all of them.

ff7 & ff10
gran turismo 1 & 2
mario series
zelda series
street fighter series
mortal kombat
tekken 2

Fallout: Mark Morgan
Descent 2: Various Artists
Portal: Kelly Baily
Doom (PSX): Aubrey Hodges
Planescape Torment: Mark Morgan
Quake: Trent Reznor
Quake 2: Sonic Mayhem
Mechwarrior 2: Jeehun Hwang
Thief Deadly Shadows: Eric Brosius
BioShock: Garry Schyman
American McGee's Alice: Chris Vrenna
Lifted from this thread.

Dune 2000 by Frank Klepacki
C&C Tiberian Sun: Firestorm by Frank Klepacki
C&C Red Alert 2 by Frank Klepacki
Emperor: Battle for Dune by Frank Klepacki, David Arkenstone & Jarrid Mendelson
KKnD by, uh, someone. It had some very C&C-ish songs.
EVE: The Second Genesis AKA EVE Online by Jon Hallur
Need for Speed 1-5 & V-Rally 2. I still find it amusing Rhapsody did some music that wasn't Symphonic Power Metuhl for a game [V-Rally 2].
Devil May Cry 1-4 have had some pretty good songs as well.

Final Fantasy 7
The Elder Scrolls (the music reminds me of Ralph Vaughan Williams some times)
Warcraft 3

Liked the music from Commandos 2.

C&C Red Alert 1&2, Universe At War: Earth Assault(the 3-disk soundtrack is free to download, definitely worth it), most Megaman series games, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, and that's all that I can think of for now.

I really enjoyed the old midi stuff from the 8-bit and 16-bit days.
Strider, Ninja Gaiden, Phantasy Star 2, FF6, etc.

Recently I have enjoyed the Bioshock soundtrack, apart from that I really liked the GTA Vice City and San Andreas soundtracks

Elderscrolls-Daggerfall

Castlevania IV

Bioshock

Donkey Kong Country (I love the underwater music in this game) so relaxing. I have many remixes of it

Diablo 1 & 2 who could forget Tristram's music!

Deus Ex. Got the CD with the Game of the Year edition of the game, and it is absolutely fantastic.

Note: I am probably biased because of my unhealthy love for the game :p.

First three Medal of Honors.
Simcity 2000 as well ;) (especially that one song that always came before the main theme)
Halo 1-3
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Bioshock

Okay, lessee...Homeworld, the Panzer Dragoon series, OutRun and Super Hang-On from back in the day, a lot of stuff composed by someone named kt2 (from various "doujin" games in Japan, but lovely atmospheric soundtracks)...

In approximate order:

Chrono Trigger
Halo 3
Halo: Combat Evolved
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy IV
Halo 2
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Final Fantasy VI

Fallout soundtrack was incredibly atmospheric.

Also really liked the music in Oblivion.

I have been playing Warcraft 2 since this thread to re-live the music, awesomeness

I can't beleive I didn't see anyone put Legond of Mana, or Castlevania Syphony of the Night, or for that matter all the Castlvania's.
Also no doubt all the Final Fantasys.
Rock n Roll Racing
all the Marios
Diddy Kong Racing for the 64.
Frellancer
Buldersgate series.
Star Craft, not much music but still it was good music for the game.
Space Invaders, who hasn't played that game and had the music just burned into your head?
Morrowind the Elder Scrolls 3.
All the Zeldas.

I would list more but I would miss breakfesast got to go.

A couple or so tracks from HL2 are pretty "techno", then GTR and GTR2 as well as BMW M3 challenge all have nice bits of music, oh RBR also had cool tracks but I was never able to get them... :(

I must say that the Mute City music from F-zero is pretty gay, but oh how incredibly awesome!!!! :D

...also - the GTA games, anyone? :D

All Blizzard games have artful music especially Diablo2. Unreal Tournament had some cool music as well.

Definitely Final Fantasy 8 for me. Liberi Fatali, The Landing, Fithos, and Eyes on Me are just some of the awesome compositions.

All Blizzard games have artful music especially Diablo2. Unreal Tournament had some cool music as well.

+1 Unreal Tournament did have some good music, especially Xan's ship.

Besides the obligatory FF OSTs (really, anything by Nobuo Uematsu) :

Ridge Racer Type4
Rez
Any of the Guilty Gear games
Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
