Galaxy Note 2, whose getting one?

Except that blocking mode shortcut you made still doesn't completely work. Verizon borked some functionality in it too (I can't remember if it was notification or calls that it wasn't blocking still even though it was set up correctly).

What annoyed me the most about the stock Verizon ROM is the friggin persistent WiFi notification and lack of WiFi toggle in the notification bar. I also didn't like the persistent E911 icon in the notification bar, but that's on all the Note 2s.

Most of what I like about the 3rd party ROMs that are based off of the international Note 2, so you're not relying on the carriers for major OS updates and you have all of the functionality that Samsung intended for the phone. Also, unlocked native tethering and all apps in multi-window mode are nice pros.

But there's mods out to fix most of the problems with the Verizon ROM, so you can just root and install all of that and keep the stock ROM if you want to, you don't have to unlock the bootloader to do it either. I did that for the first month or so I had the phone, but after getting tired of dismissing the WiFi notification and the E-911 icon at the top, I decided to install a whole new ROM.

Also, you can use Verizon apps on 3rd party ROMs if it's enabled on it. I can use the My Verizon app on Beans ROMs.

Also things like per-app-DPI. Because lets face it...the font and GUI element size settings on the stock Note 2 ROM are wacko. Hard to enjoy that high-res screen when fonts are gigantic.

Unlock and root it, srsly. This is the main reason why I did with my Verizon Note 2. I put a ROM on it that's based on the International Note 2, so I have all of the functionality on it as the International version. It's funny too because while I install a new ROM, the installer flashes a dude flipping off Verizon as it preps to install, lol. That's exactly how I feel as I install it too .

I may have to get back into rooting/roming just for this feature... :D

You are right!!! It doesn't work even with the shortcut. Texts and calls still come through.

Fucking verizon.

I was on Sprint for a while and they were ok as long as you were in the major areas and especially if you were near the freeway. Had to switch to Verizon and I dont see me ever leaving no matter how crappy they treat their customers. Their network is just too good especially with the fantastic radio on this Note 2. I get 4G in the most ridiculous areas around here!

Ive also noticed the the radio is outstanding at picking up WiFi too. Im getting WiFi in spots I never did with my Tbolt and the wife's iPhone wont pick it up in spots where my Note 2 will.

Ditto!

Admittedly its huge, but u get used to it. I even have an otterbix commuter on it and I'm not having any issues after a few days.

Is it possible to get a stock Android rom on the thing? What functions would I be losing out on? I can't stand TouchWiz.

I finally got mine two weeks ago and I love it. I passed on the s4 due to the camera field of view being so narrow and I take a lot of photos, don't want to have to step back farther to get the same shot.

TW on this phone is pretty damn good, way better then any other Samsung phone I've owned. I'm perfectly happy with my note 2 and I'll keep it until the note 4 or s5 comes out easily.

About the only thing you miss out on now are dialer codes, PRL updating...and Spen widgets.

Fully customizable S Suggest popup menu on Spen removal now exists for free for Cyanogen ROMs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41809221&postcount=5

SPen notes can be done via Papyrus for free.

Battery life tends not to be as good as stock TWiz. But that is about it...In exchange you get 4.2.2 right now ;)

I still love my note2. Have had it since last November. At that time I gave my wife my evo 4glte and moved to the note 2 haven't regretted it yet. The only thing I'll change this for is a note 3 this fall. I haven't even rooted this or ran a custom launcher. Still running factory stock and it's been great. No regrets here.

You're nuts. :p

I said "TWiz is fine and I probably won't root" when I bought the device....and that sentiment lasted all of 18 hours.

Nah, at this point with Android Imo the only real reason to change roms and shit is purely because you want too. Not because you need too as in the past. At least that's how it is for me.

Still loving mine - can't wait to see what they do for note 4 or 5 :)

Going back to Galaxy I when samsung was replacing screen in my Note 2 was really painfull.

After 2 or 3 months it is just gets better & better.
I still use my Droid X for a separate # and the Note 2 beats the living crap out of it!

There is nothing wrong with TW on the note 2. I see no reason to flash a rom on my phone either. The hardware is great, it's not like the original evo days where you needed to rom a phone to get smooth performance.

Like I said I'll wait for the note 4 before I upgrade this phone. It will easily last 2 years.

I love mine, but I don't think I would go quite as big next time, I hit the back button alot going for stuff at the top of the screen. Though my next phone has to get the same battery life. Only charging once every 2-3 days is great. I never worry about the battery dieing on me.

Hopefully motorola comes out with a nice newer razor maxx that isn't super choppy and locked down.

Anybody dropped their note 2 into some water? Mine accidentally got dropped and now the phone wont even boot. :(

This is going to sound like BS, but this should work, assuming that all you have is water damage.

You'll need a bowl, about 2-cups of white rice, and some isopropyl alcohol.

Step 1 - remove the battery
Step 2 - fully submerge in isopropyl alcohol and let sit for a minimum of 24 hours, 48 hours recommended.
Step 3 - dry the outside of the phone with a cloth, and then place the phone in the bowl and bury with white rice. Let sit for just as long as the phone was submerged (again, recommended 48 hours).

Phone should function again.

Huh, never heard of letting it sit in alcohol. Probably because it doesnt conduct electricity well, displaces water and evaporates quickly.

Wow 96 hours..Okay I'll give it a shot! If it doesn't work, it's time for a new anyway. :D

Yeah, I've never heard of doing that either. I've always just read to put the phone in a sealed bag of rice for a day or two. Fortunately I haven't had this problem (yet), so I don't have much input on it.

Yup, still happy with my Note 2. Running Beans 17 on it at the moment. I've tried CleanROM and Jedi X and Beans is my fav TW based ROM out of them with its AOSP look and TW features with many additional features too, it's awesome .

I would go AOSP if I didn't depend on the one-handed keyboard, dialer and unlock screen so much and that's all baked into TW.

Battery life still amazes me with this phone. I don't think I ever get through a day without getting much below 50%. I'm tempted to trade it toward a GS4 though so I can have a more manageable phone for one handed usage, that's the only con I have with this phone.

I quite like it, since its the first android phone I have used that stock its a complete piece of shit for battery life. I have the same problem as you do, my hands arent huge so its kind of annoying to work the Note 2 one handed. The GS4 is just so boring to me, that and my work gave me my Note 2.

Yeah still loving mine as well. Im actually still running not only the stock ROM but also the stock browser! I find it to be faster and better working than Opera and Chrome. Dolphin comes pretty close to it but the stock browser is still smoother and displays pages more accurately. First phone Ive ever used the stock browser on. Cant believe it.

The only issue I have w/ the stock browser and Chrome is that they don't reformat text on resize. Firefox beta does this well.

It does on my phone. I really want to use Chrome but it wont work for shit on forums. One post will have tiny text but the post right below will have huge text. A post with a quote in it will have normal size text in the quote but then the actual post will be much much smaller. It basically makes Chrome unusable for me since all I basically do on my phone is browse my forums.

Opera, Dolphin and the stock browser all display forums properly for me.

That is exactly what I did. I do miss the screen size a tiny bit, but the overall feel of the S4 and the one handed operation is much better. Since beans has an S4 now I figure it's just a matter of time for Beans V1. :)

Yeah keep us updated. I'm very curious to hear your result.

You should REALLY take a look @ Tapatalk. I think they're up to version 4 beta. [H] doesn't support tapatalk, but you can make it all normal size by changing the layout to mobile on the bottom left of the page.

+1. Tapatalk is probably the most used app on my N2.

I just installed 4 and I do not like it. What forums do you have included?

I go for overclock.net, android central.com, XDA, and anandtech. I would say I primarily browse OCN.

Speaking about Tapatalk - is there any way to kill those stupid notifications on forums without installing it ?

No i want to turn off the notifications that forum has Tapatalk and i should instal it - because i don't want it :D

Oh you mean the popups in a web browser for Tapatalk? No way I know of to kill them...apart from not using a web browser to access said forum...I think if you enable all cookies, you get the popup only once per month.

I've got Tapatalk 2 and it's pretty good but the main 3 forums I hit a hundred times a day are [H] of course, PC Gamer and Overclock3D and none of them do Tapatalk. OCN does and DIYMA (car audio) do but I don't hit them near as much as I do the other 3 so I just stick to the browser.

On a side note, apparently Opera has redesigned their look and UIand man iI don't like it at all! Just tried it and zapped it after about 15 minutes. Sad cause it used to be the best UI period.
