Putting together a new build and bought a ga-ex58-ud4p motherboard. It is still sealed and I can return it. On newegg and google there are several posts about a high pitched squeal from the MB. People have rma's and have the squeal on the replacement board as well. I was considering as an alternative, the P6T or the deluxe version, but there are some squeal reports on those boards as well. A squealing noise would really bother me. From what I read, evga boards do not have a squeal problem. Does anyone know how common the problem is? What is a good alternative evga board?

Mine doesn't have it, works great, ocs great, very stable. I used to know the details on this issue but once I got my ud4p, I didnt keep up.

question, does boot up take a long time for you guys? Like before it POSTS? like 10 seconds before the bios splash shows up

Thinking about it yeah it does take a little bit, before the bios screen even shows up, bit longer than some of my other boards, (not i7 boards)

Mine does not squeal either. It runs great and is very stable. Love gigabyte boards.

And yeah, my board also takes a while (10 seconds or so) to show the gigabyte logo post screen, but it doesn't bother me much.

Oh ok, I was just wondering if that was normal :p.

And do you guys have problems with sleep mode in vista 64bit or firefox stalls.

Now that I've been activated, I can measure in on this!

I've noticed that if I get very close to my board I can hear a slight high pitched noise.

However, from any decent distance it is absolutely silent. I've heard of these issues as well and if you're not afraid to RMA if you're unlucky, it can be easily solved.

It does take a pretty long time for the x58 gigabyte boards to boot up. I have the ex58-extreme Its takes a while to show a splash screen, plus no built in speaker as you always expect that post-beep. It's kinda keeps you on the edge at times when you start it up, haha.

someone posted that the ga-ex58-ud4p was discontinued because of the squeal, what source was this info from?

I've built two systems with the gigabyte ud4p board in the last few months, neither squeals. A great solid board from my experience. Both rigs have specs very similar to the one in my sig.

No squeal here either and absolutely love the board. Glad I'm not the only one with the delay for Gigabyte logo screen. :D

I've also done two builds with this board in the past 2 weeks. Neither squeel.

Mine boots up instantly but a friend's with a 4890 takes about 5-8 seconds before BIOS shows up. Really strange since both boards are updated with latest bios and have same settings for most part.

Mine did it before I started overclocking and now it doesnt do it.

I had the exact same problem. It would squeal during lots of I/O activity (disk reads/writes especially) so I sent it back to Newegg. The new one I got back did the same thing. After I overclocked the processor, the squealing stopped. If I run it stock, it squeals.

My guess is it has something to do with the dynamic power management on the board since bumping the voltages gets rid of the squeal.

It's a great board otherwise. I've been using it for about 3 months now with an overclocked i7 (in sig) and it's been rock solid. Never one single stability issue.

Edit: Note, I have the UD5... but there's not really much difference between it and the UD4.
