G.skill or OCZ

Sure. But the link I provided gives you faster ram for $35 less once shipping is included.

I just got the RAM Lod is reccing and it runs 4-4-4-10 @ 800 2 V. no problem I'm now running it 5-5-5-12 @ 900 2V.

This ram rocks!

Well, i live in the UK .. so US deals like newegg are no-go for me. :(

Intended build is a IP35 Dark raider + q6600. Planning on overclocking, but I doubt if I will hit more than 400 fsb and I was thinking about a 1:1 memory divider. Would it make a big difference to opt for the pc2-8000?

For a 1:1 ratio, all you need is ANY DDR2 800 RAM for the Q6600. Some math:

Stated FSB/4 = Actual FSB
Multiplier x Actual FSB = CPU Speed
2 x Actual FSB = RAM Speed

Q6600:
Multi x Actual FSB, Stated FSB, RAM Speed = Clock Speed
9 x 266Mhz, 1066Mhz, DDR2 533 RAM = 2.4Ghz <== Stock Speeds
9 x 333Mhz, 1333Mhz, DDR2 667 RAM = 3.0Ghz <== Good OC
9 x 400Mhz, 1600Mhz, DDR2 800 RAM = 3.6Ghz <== Excellent OC, About the Max

So it wouldn't make a difference going with PC2-8000. Just stick with DDR2 800 RAM or PC2-6400

Thanks for that Danny, quite a bit of help there. Let's say I wasn't going to run 1:1, I noticed you have G.skill also, how far above 800 can you get it? Is that the ddr2-800 with 4-4-4-12 timings?

With my 2GBHK set, I can easily hit 1100mhz at 4-4-4-12, and 1050~ at 4-3-4-9

You won't see an actual real-world performance increase by running the RAM faster than the FSB. C2D systems perform best when the RAM and FSB are at a 1:1 ratio. You may see your synthetic benchmark scores go up but that's it. You won't notice it in real-world gameplay.

That Mushkin RAM is good but it's total and utter overkill for you. Like I showed and said earlier, all you need is ANY set of DDR2 800 or PC2-6400 RAM with the Q6600.

Oh my G.Skill RAM is the GBPQ set with 5-5-5-15 timings. Haven't seen the need to OC my RAM since I'm satisfied with 3.2Ghz at the moment. Though IIRC, that RAM can OC to around 850 to 900Mhz.

Well in that case, I guess I will just settle for this Corsair as its the cheapest I am getting among all 3 brands, since the G.skill and others are about £10 higher than this elsewhere, and I am getting most of my stuff from Scan, so no extra delivery charges.

On newegg, OCZ has been getting a lot of bad reviews based upon bad chips and incompatibility. I think they'll probably turn things around, but for this generation of PCs I opted to skip OCZ and have been buying GSkill since then. Zero problems, GSkill is great stuff.

You actually listen to what people say on Newegg reviews? :eek: :confused:

I am trying to decide between this OCZ
and G.skill
for my new build. Which one should I choose? Anybody have these, what overclocking potential is there?

Read these reviews and decide what's best for you.

GSkill - http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews/ram/g-skill-4gb-pc6400/

I personally like OCZ (heat spreader, reliable). I'm currently using Platnium PC6400 Rev2 and I can get it Oced to 960mhz, (4Gb of 1Gb stick though, I'm not sure how is 2Gb stick doing with overcloking)and stabled.
