My specs are as follows:
IC7 board
2x256 Kingston Hyper X DDR 400
2.4C@3.38 ghz with XP-120 & 120mm fan
GF4 4400
I intend to upgrade to 1 gig of ram and to a 6800 GT. Basically im wondering how long this system will last me. I havent been keeping up to date on intel's future plans but it seems to me that all the stuff that intel is trying to market atm (DDR2, pci express, prescott, etc) still require a significant amount of time to mature. Definately atm the price/performance ratio of upgrading to a prescott system with DDR2 and pci-e just does not seem worth it from what I have already.
Maybe when intel releases their dual core 64 bit chips it will be worth upgrading (although I hear these suckers run very hot, may have to look into what AMD has to offer). In any event I want my current system to last at least another 3 years. Maybe I will upgrade to a socket 478 prescott and then overclock the sucker as much as I can.
